In this ar- ticle we are reaching out to YOU! The Quartzsite Museum, run by the Quartzsite Historical Society, is strictly a volunteer organization. Like for so many museums, these days, we need help in maintain- ing our programs. We hope our seasonal residents, as well as year- rounders, take an interest in the past and want to see our historical record preserved. Can you spare a few hours a month while you are in Quartzsite? Want to do a seasonal task such as helping us at the Big Tent or bake sales? Have a specialty interest in an area of history you'd like to pursue? Please contact us at the Museum to discuss what might be right for you! Don't forget: Alison Moore and Phil Lancaster will present "Rid- ers of the Orphan Train" on Janu- ary 24 at 7 pm at the Community Center. Alison was here two years ago and presented to an overfl ow audience. They are back by popular demand. The presentation uses a variety of media including pictures, responses received from actual or- phans who were on the trains and their own song. The presentation is co-sponsored by the Friends of the Library and the Quartzsite Histori- cal Society. Because our speakers have generated a large turn-out this year, we have moved to the Community Center. Be sure to note the change of location Thanks to all who have participat- ed in our events so far this season! We hope to have a booth in the Big Tent again this year. That booth would be manned by volunteers, so if you are interested in spend- ing some time greeting and chat- ting with our visitors let us know at the museum. It is a lot of fun! Also, while visiting the tent stop by our booth to visit and shop for histori- cal books. We still have Volume One and Vol- ume Two of "In the Shadow of the Saguaros" by Rosemary Wheeler available for purchase at the Mu- seum. Please stop by to purchase these great books! Trivia Question: We are giving you an easy one: What is the oldest building in Quartzsite, when was it fi rst built and what has it been used for? Come to the Museum to learn the answers. No phone calls please. We continue to need volunteers to assist with a variety of projects includ- ing exhibit cleaning and inventorying, computer input and general offi ce work, computer maintenance, special projects, docent assistance greeting the public and conducting tours, re- search of additional information re- garding Quartzsite and general main- tenance. We received a grant this year which helps fund the development of some new exhibits, as well. Membership of $10 for a year is encouraged. As a member you will receive e-mail notices of coming events, and have a vote in decisions being made regarding the Historical Society and Museum in addition to helping fund the free Museum. Par- ticipation in our fi eld trips is free for members and $3 for non-members. We are a non-profi t historical so- ciety. Visiting the Museum is free, although donations are always welcome. The Museum is open Wednesday through Sunday, 10 am to 4 pm. However, we will also be open on January 21 and 22 to ac- commodate those in town for the Big Tent and Pow Wow.
