Psi Chapter: Honoring Our Past, Building Our Future Psi Chapter of Sigma Chi at the University of Virginia • Fall 2018 CAPITAL CAMPAIGN PHASE 2 C apital Campaign Phase 2 activity has shifted to renovating the main house with new dining and kitchen facilities, adding four bedrooms and new bathrooms to accommodate up to 22 residents, and improving the site design to include more parking and landscaping that complies with city standards. We have worked with our architect and have now finalized the plan. New whole-house HVAC and electrical systems, as well as an energy-efficient design, will enhance the sustainability of the completed facility and increase its operating efficiency. The newly completed Chapter Room and social space have created a separation from the future living space, which will increase the longevity of our restoration. The total project (Phase 1 plus Phase 2) is estimated to cost $2,250,000. Our Capital Campaign has now achieved over $1.7 million in pledges, and Phase 2 fundraising has resulted in almost $100,000 in new pledges. We have also solicited 5-year era leads and year leads to help with this effort. The list of era and class leaders can be found on page 2. Feel free to reach out to them with questions, suggestions, and – most importantly – donations. And if you notice an era or year gap and are willing to help, please let Jim Mallon know. Below is a snapshot of overall Era Campaign pledges to date. On October 13, the House Corporation Board of Directors met for its annual meeting. Steve Herbert presented the Building Committee report and the Board of Directors approved engaging Martin-Horn as our contractor and authorized the Building Committee to finalize cost negotiations with Martin-Horn with a goal of contracting with them by January 2019. We anticipate renovations and new construction will commence next spring. The Building Committee and Chapter Advisor were also tasked to work with the Chapter to develop a transition plan for the summer/fall of 2019.
