Brackett (5-8, 160). On the defensive side of the ball, the Engineers will be led by first-year assis- tant coach Daulton Coffey, the son of Siloam Springs assistant coach Tony Coffey. Daulton Coffey spent last season as a volunteer coach at Siloam Springs and was hired this summer by Watts. "He's going to run the defense for me," Stilwell said. The Engineers are going to switch their defense to a 2-2-4 look and "get multiple athletes on the field in the secondary," Stilwell said. "Daulton's going to do a good job," Stil- well said. "He's a good, young defensive mind. I gave him the defense this summer. I came up with the scheme and gave him the reins to it. I told him that's what I wanted to run and he took off and ran with it." Estep and Thompson will be the top two defensive lineman for Watts. Estep, who's "140 pounds soaking wet," has played nose guard for the Engineers the last three seasons. "He's one of those kids that's under- sized but tough," Stilwell said. "A wiry farm kid." Thompson has decent size for a soph- omore, but the best thing about him is he has "a little attitude that serves him well down there," his coach said. Smith and Mendoza also will get some reps along the defensive line. "We're short on big people," he said. Jesse Guyll and Grant look to man the linebacker positions. Jesse Guyll "sees the field well and is a ball hawk" and led the Engineers in tackles as a sophomore. Grant is a true run-stopper. "Him being successful is coming downhill and stop- ping the run," Stilwell said. Brown also will get a look at linebacker. The Engineers will play two safeties and two cornerbacks. Smith and Mitchell will man the safe- ties, though Watts is looking for more help there so they can allow Mitchell to play more offense. Harlin will man one cornerback spot while Avery Guyll and Tush will play at the other corner spot. Whaler also could see some playing time in the secondary. tammy.mancia@crye-leike.com 217 Gentry Blvd. Gentry, AR 72734 Tammy Curry Mancia Cell: (918) 801-2955 Offi ce: (479) 736-1353 LICENSED IN OK, AR AND MO. 2018 Football Preview 20 n Wednesday, August 22, 2018 The Herald-Leader/Westside Eagle Observer WATTS Continued from Page 15 Graham Thomas/Herald-Leader The Watts (Okla.)
