ΣΦΕ EARTBEA H T UNIVERSITY OF OREGON s SIGMA PHI EPSILON Oregon Beta SPRING 2018 GIVING BACK TO SIGEP Alumni Volunteer Corporation Discusses Alumni Meetings and Opportunities I f you are reading this, it must be because you still have an interest in SigEp Oregon Beta! It was such an influential and impactful time of our lives—our first taste of independence and the excitement of all that U of O has to offer. We had so many memories of brotherhood and all that comes with Oregon Beta! My guess is, you may also feel that your SigEp experience played an important part in your launch into life—career, family, community. Over the past year, many Oregon Beta alumni have reunited to give back because their SigEp experience was very important for their own life. They are volunteering time, expertise, and advice to serve on our Alumni Volunteer Corporation (AVC). In the tradition of Oregon Beta, we are making it fun and rewarding. We have been scheduling our Eugene meetings to line up with Oregon sporting events, and we are holding more casual meetings at some of the great pubs in Portland. We are also always looking for alumni to speak to and/or mentor the undergraduates in topics of their specialty. We've started to stitch together different graduation classes and would like to broaden our monthly SigEp "First Friday at Four." The primary attendees for this social gathering in Portland have been the classes of 1979-83, but we would love to expand this to include several decades of Oregon Beta alumni! If you haven't already done so, be sure to follow us on Facebook at Sig Ep Alumni Page - U of O - Oregon Beta, as we hope to organize more alumni social events in the near future. A huge thanks to Dr. Jeff Nolz, South Dakota State '03, Dr. Dick Allen '58, and Pat Latimer '68 for being fine alumni board members as well as spearheading this broadened participation. Thanks to Brian Stewart '82, Mark Boersma '87, Mark McGonegal '88, Brian Bell '06, Jack Moothart '88, Craig Hodgson '83, Dan Stalie '87, and Ryan Wheatley '07 for becoming the current board so far. We had Stu Redsun '87 spend some time with us and the Chapter as well. We are hoping more of you will join us both on the board and at our monthly gatherings. Like true Oregon Beta SigEps, we are competitive! Our intent is to ensure Oregon Beta is the top Fraternity on Oregon's campus, and to improve our favorite old 1000 Alder Street house into an impressive facility that the best students are lining up to live in. We are working on financial plans to get this started, and are working closely with the Chapter undergraduates and SigEp National Housing to develop a strategic plan for structural improvements as well as continual maintenance and upkeep. We would love to hear from you! Let us know if you'd like to attend any of our get-togethers, and especially if you'd like to give back (in any way; any effort helps) to ensure today's Oregon Beta undergraduates get the same great experience and launch into their adult lives the way we all did.
