Bob is a retired forester and a member of the Oregon Society of American Foresters and the Oregon Forestry Retirees Association. He bowls in two senior bowling leagues each week and is active in his Lutheran church. In April 2017, he wrote: "We do not travel to foreign countries, but we plan to make our 30th trip to Alaska to see family in August 2017 for a grandson's wedding." Brady '60-725 is a pharmacist with Dependable Staffing Services. He wrote in March 2017: "I'm still employed by D.S.S. My latest assignment was in Tuba City, Arizona, at a Navajo-Hopi outpatient pharmacy, doing flu shots for two months (October-November 2016), and patient counseling in pharmacy since. "Jack" Smith '40-410, of Forest Grove, Oregon, passed away on October 8, 2015. He is survived by his wife, Grace Diaz; son, John Smith; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchil- dren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Lange; and daughters, Janet Marie and Jenny Han. Sigurd A. Wallin '40-411 passed away on April 7, 2015, in Forest Grove, Oregon, at the age of 100. His son, Jim Wallin, wrote that his dad enjoyed sharing meals at Jennings McCall II Assisted Liv- ing with his friend and fraternity brother Jack Smith '40-410. Sigurd was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth, who passed away in September 2013. He owned and operated a logging business for over 75 years, a business in which he got his start at the Stimson Wood Product Company in Gaston, Oregon. Sigurd was an avid fisherman, and he enjoyed growing filbert trees, strawber- ries, cherries, and raspberries on his farm. He was a lifelong of the Gaston Community Church. He leaves behind his four children, James, Janice, Dennis, and Mary Ellen; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. James A. Peterson '42-464, of Beaverton, Ore- gon, passed away on May 28, 2017, at age 97. He served in the Army in World War II, and received a pharmacy degree from Iowa State in 1949. He owned West Slope Pharmacy from 1954 to 1973. He and his wife, Ginger, traveled the world in 1974 and then moved to Bend, Oregon, where Jim worked as a pharmacist until age 84. He was an active outdoorsman, especially loving to hike, hunt, and fish, and he knew the bird songs of many Oregon birds. He was a volunteer at the High Desert Museum for over 25 years. Jim's wife, Ginger, and later, his lady friend, Darlene Child, preceded him in death. He is survived by his three daughters, Janet, Kay, and Laurie; and his grandson, Torin McDonald. Jim's daughter Laurie wrote that her father "oen told young people to enroll in a fraternity or sorority be- cause he had found it so helpful, and it made his professional life and personal life much better." Ralph Allen '42-466, of Corvallis, Oregon, passed away on February 6, 2017. He met Su- zanne Knupp while working in the kitchen of the Delta Zeta house, and the two were married that same year. He served in the Army from 1942 until 1946, with his final assignment in Europe. Ralph graduated from Oregon State while work- ing at Heckert's Hardware Store, and he started his lifelong vocation as a general contractor af- ter his graduation. He and Suzanne were soon building homes. Ralph was known for his practi- cal approach, work ethic, competency, integrity, self-sufficiency, and reliability. He was a found- ing member of the Oregon State Home Builders Association, and a longtime Rotarian. Ralph and Suzanne raised two sons, Terry and Steve. Suzanne passed away in 1995, and Terry passed away on in 2011. Surviving family members in- clude Steve and his wife, Karen; Terry's wife, Brigid; and four grandchildren. Billie Halmand Dyal '43-498, longtime resi- dent of Sandy, Oregon, passed away on January 7, 2016, at age 91. His family wrote: "Brother, Alpha Lambda Remembers (Continued on page 6)
