He raised his family in Sandy, Oregon, where he operated his own business in the timber indus- try until his retirement in 1987. He was a big part of his community as school board member and church deacon." Bill is survived by his sons, Tom, Joseph, Mike, and Pat; daughter, Donna Sam Dyal; 14 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his sons, Hal and Dave; and the moth- er of his children, Diane Leland Dyal. Beryle W. "Bud" Wright '43-505 passed away on December 13, 2016, in Bend, Oregon, at age 92. e residents of Touchmark Living Center said they would miss "Mr. Sunshine," who could oen be found in the courtyard, lounging in the sunlight and greeting everyone who came by. Bud attended Oregon State University and the University of Colorado in Boulder through the Navy V12 program and was an Ensign on the air- cra carrier Princeton from 1945-1946. He was a salesman and mechanical engineer for most of his professional career, founding Mill Power En- gineering and Manufacturing in 1968. He was known for his love of jazz and big band music. He was an excellent dancer and won over his wife, Doris, at concerts in Portland and Milwaukie. ey were married for 69 years. Bud was also an accomplished salmon fisherman, golfer, and boat builder. He leaves behind his wife, Doris; daugh- ter, Cathie Tompkins; son, David; brother, Jim Wright; four grandchildren; and six great-grand- children. Delos P. Young Jr. '48-565 passed away on May 31, 2015. He lived in Sun City West, Arizona. Lawrence A. Spellman Sr. '50-595 passed away on January 13, 2018, at age 87. Born in Hono- lulu, Larry was raised in Hawaii and, as a boy, witnessed the bombing of Pearl Harbor. In his professional life, he was the East Coast Regional Production Manager for Weyerhaeuser in Voor- hees, New Jersey, and he lived many years in Medford, New Jersey. He was an active member of the Medford Republican Club and a former member of the Medford Township Zoning Board. He is survived by his four children, Cindy Grover, Lawrence Spellman Jr. '77-994, Steven Spellman, and Susan Osterhout; 12 grandchildren; and sev- en great-grandchildren. John A. Tucker '50-596 passed away on July 27, 2008. He was a resident of Marcola, Oregon. Richard E. "Dick" "Andy" Anderson '52-621 passed away in Hermiston, Oregon, on December 9, 2016, at age 80. He grew up in Ketchikan, Alas- ka, where he played basketball in high school and his team won the first All Alaska Championship. At Oregon State, Dick played basketball under "Slats" Gill, and joined the Air Force ROTC. In the summers, he worked his way through college as one of the youngest captains of the Ketchikan commercial fishing fleet. Aer flight school, he was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany, where he met his future wife, Irene. He retired from the Air Force in 1973 with the rank of Lt. Colonel, and settled in Corvallis, where he worked in real estate for another 20 years. Dick and Irene moved to Vancouver, Washington, in 1994 to be closer to their children, and Dick later moved to Hermis- ton. He was predeceased by his wife, Irene. Sur- vivors include his two daughters, Ginny Holthus and Karen Emmons; his son, Tom Anderson; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchil- dren. Richard L. Manning Jr. '56-683, of Fountain Valley, California, passed away on January 30, 2016, according to the family. Kenneth L. Kennington '57-687, of Vallejo, California, passed away on October 23, 2017, at the age of 80. He grew up in Klamath Falls, Or- egon, and was in the car sales industry for most of his life aer graduating from Oregon State. He lived many years in the Stockton-Lodi area. Ken moved to Vallejo to live with his daughter and her family in 2007, quickly finding a place in the senior bridge community. e Benicia Se- nior Bridge Club was the backbone of his social life. Ken was preceded in death by his wife, Judy, and his lady friend, Lynn. He leaves behind his daughter, Stacey Kennington; son-in-law, Scott Lane; and grandson, Spencer; as well as his best friend, Al Switzer. In April 2017, Ken sent a note to the alumni office: "I hope my pin will be val- ued by the new owner, as it was by me." Tedd L. Wright '68-800 passed away on January 3, 2014. He had resided in San Diego, California. K. Shane McMurdie '71-858, of Portland, passed away on March 14, 2017. He taught school for 30 years in Klamath Falls, two villages in Alaska, and in Beaverton. Shane is survived by his wife, Carol; and three children, Jesse, Jake, and Kelsey.
