Beta Zeta Chapter I Delta Tau Delta Fraternity I Butler University I Spring 2018 Upholding Truth, Courage, Faith, and Power INSIDE: 2 ALUMNI SPOTLIGHTS 3 EXEMPLIFYING THE CORE VALUES 4 HELP COMPLETE THE SHELTER COURTYARD F or the fifth year standing, Beta Zeta took home its 15th Hugh Shields Award for Chapter Excellence in February. This prestigious award, which is given to the top 10 undergraduate chapters annually, is an honor we do not take lightly. Ten undergraduate members traveled to Columbus in February for the event, and were also honored for chapter excellence in outstanding philanthropy, having raised more than $46,000 this past year for Riley Children's Foundation, Matt White Cure ALS, and JDRF Indiana. Beta Zeta Excels In Academics and Recruitment Not only is the chapter excelling on a national level, Beta Zeta also has much to celebrate back on the Butler campus. We have been recognized for the third straight semester as the top fraternity on campus with a GPA of 3.481. Congratulations to our brothers and this wonderful scholastic achievement. We also had a very successful 2018 recruitment where 34 of 35 pledges accepted. The declined bid decided not to go Greek. Advisor and House Corporation Board Positions Available The undergraduate chapter has been experiencing a long history of success and accomplishment throughout the last decade, which has been closely supported by the dedication and guidance of volunteers that have given their time and talent without reservation. Are you interested in joining this team of volunteers and being part of something greater? We are looking to fill positions on the advising team and house corporation board starting with the 2018-19 academic year. National Delta Tau Delta Foundation President Steve Vedra '02, under the advice of counsel, has decided to step down as a member of the house corporation. Steve has been a longtime volunteer since graduating in 2002, serving for many years as chapter advisor, and in many other roles. Also, Chad Miller '09 will be stepping down as chapter advisor at the end of this school year, as he is now a first-time dad. It has been a pleasure watching Chad step into this role, since Steve and I worked closely with him during his undergraduate years. This is the very reason we chose to engage with Beta Zeta undergraduates as volunteers—seeing the development of members stem long past graduation. It is bittersweet that I also inform you my time as a volunteer for the fraternity is coming to a close. I will be stepping down at the end of summer, following the conclusion of BETA ZETA HONORED WITH HUGH SHIELDS AWARD all-alumni recognition from the campaign. The remoteness of my position since 2014 (Montana, now Colorado), has proven to be challenging given my distance from the chapter and alumni. My time spent on the advising team, the house corporation board, campaign committee, and as the lead for alumni communications has blessed me immensely. I can say with complete honesty that every ounce of time and effort that I put into volunteering was met with even greater reward. I very much believe that the same can be said for Steve and Chad, as well as all current and past alumni volunteers. Each of us learned to lead from Beta Zeta, and were fortunate enough to hone these skills as volunteers. Alumni, Volunteer Your Time with Beta Zeta This past year has been no exception to the long-standing history of success of the Beta Zeta Chapter. As the years go by and seasons change, we must develop our alumni through volunteer experiences. While a few of us are passing the leadership torch—and right now the torch is blazing with fire—we are making way for the next generation to join Beta Zeta during the journey. Perhaps you are a bit apprehensive as to the level of commitment that volunteering may require. We will make this simple; here is exactly what we are looking for and the amount of time associated. n Assistant Chapter Advisor • Attend weekly undergraduate meeting/work alongside chapter advisor • Approx. 2 hrs./week Beta Zeta brothers kick off the academic year at Welcome Week.
