2 The Katydid Fran said. "We always said that Jacque never met a stranger; everyone was her best friend—old and young alike." After marrying her high school sweetheart, John, in 1989 and moving back to Montgomery, Alabama, Jacque remained involved in Kappa Delta through the Montgomery Alumnae Chapter. "Her love of Kappa Delta was strong, and the friendships she made were special to her," Fran said. Jacque's mother recalls a special tradition: As the Kappa Delta alumnae philanthropy chairman, Jacque would deliver gifts donated from those attending the KD Christmas Tea to the Montgomery Family Sunshine Center, a crisis center that serves victims of family violence. Fran, with her granddaughters, has continued her daughter's tradition by each year transporting the alumnae gifts, given in Jacque's memory, to the center. Jacque's daughter, Lucile "Lucie" Longshore '17, was initiated into Zeta Chapter in the fall. Attending the ceremony were Lucie's grandmother; her great-aunts, Laura Susan Jones Roberts '67, Louise Jones Hill, Sigma Lambda '66, and Martha Jones Tyson '73; and her cousins, Ashlee Shepherd Hooper, Sigma Lambda '87, Lucile Shepherd Lieux, Alpha Mu '89, and Wesley Tyson Westerkom '98. Also in attendance were Jacque's pledge sisters, Gunter Lanier '86 and Sarabeth Coleman Martinson '86. Cousins Laura Roberts Clay '95, Rebecca Hardwich Baker '00, Laura Tyson Crum '02, and Allison Longshore '10 were unable to attend the initiation ceremony but were proud to have yet another member of the family join the sisterhood. During the ceremony, Lucie was pinned with her great-grandmother's pin from 1934. "It was such a special experience to witness, and I know Jacque would have been proud," Fran said. She hopes that Lucie can continue to learn about the importance of loyalty, friendship, and sisterhood during her time in the chapter, just as Jacque did. "The values and missions of Kappa Delta are something you carry with you always," Fran stated. Although Jacque may be gone, her memory lives on in her loved ones and everyone who knew her. Forever Kappa Delta (Continued from page 1) YOUR SUPPORT STRENGTHENS OUR SISTERHOOD A Note from the Chapter President recommendation is the best manner in which to advocate for a PNM. Electronic copies are preferred and can be found at kappadelta.org. Hard copy recommendations may be mailed to: Kappa Delta, P.O. Box 2854, Tuscaloosa, AL 35403. A recommendation does not guarantee an invitation nor membership. Recommendations are due prior to August 1 each year. Recommendations received after that time may not be considered due to time constraints. Please do not visit, call, text, or e-mail Chapter members with information or questions regarding Potential New Members. Membership decisions are the responsibility and privilege of the collegiate Chapter in conjunction with advisors and National Leadership Team. Kappa Delta seeks to pledge women with character, scholarship, leadership, service, and personal excellence. Grades are important, even for legacies. Each year, a very large number of KD legacies participate in recruitment at Alabama. Please be aware that, if possible, legacies will be invited to one invitational event provided that we have documenting paperwork verifying their legacy status. Such documents include a legacy introduction form or a recommendation. Legacies may then be released in the process so that they may explore other membership opportunities. Please see the membership article in the upcoming Angelos. Bid Day is Sunday, August 19, and no alcohol is permitted. Though alcohol may be legal for alumnae and some collegians, it is not allowed by anyone present on Bid Day as it violates the National Panhellenic Conference Unanimous Agreements, The University of Alabama and Kappa Delta Sorority's expectations for behavior and membership, and local statutes. New and current members found with alcohol on Bid Day will be subject to sanctions. Please help us celebrate our newest Kappa Delta sisters in a safe and wholesome environment. Love in AOT, Karen Thomas Fesmire, Beta Tau '77 National Vice President of Membership Preparation for Fall Recruitment in the Works A Note from the National Vice President of Membership A Members celebrate Bid Day 2017 in front of the KD house. Our newly initiated sisters look lovely in white! I am so proud of all of KD's accomplish- ments, efforts, and improvements, and I am confident that we will continue to grow individually and as a sisterhood. Our members positively impact one another, others on campus, and those in surrounding communities. Without the support of our loyal alumnae, we would not be able to accomplish all of the incredible things we are doing. For this, we are eternally grateful to you. We welcome all alumnae to visit the Chapter House and meet our wonderful members anytime you find yourselves in Tuscaloosa!
