We had a very successful first semester, both academically and personally. As a chapter, we would like to share with our alumnae some of the important things we have achieved, and will achieve, this upcoming year. OVER 25 PERCENT RECEIVE A 3.5 GPA We have much to be proud of just in the first few months of 2018. Our members were very academically active last semester, placing in the top 10 best term GPAs from fall 2017 among all Panhellenic organizations on campus. In addition to this, we had seven percent of our members on the President's List, earning a 4.0 GPA for the fall, as well as over 25 percent of the chapter on the Dean's List, receiving over a 3.5 GPA. The biggest academic initiatives for this upcoming semester are the implementation of a more technologically-advanced system for tracking study hours through the GINsystem, more on-campus study rooms during test-heavy weeks, as well as more incentives and acknowledgment for academic improvement presented each week at chapter. We plan on continuing teacher appreciation dinners in which members invite teachers that have positively impacted their educational careers to the house to play trivia and eat dinner together, as well as holding a Scholarship Banquet for those who received a 3.75 GPA or above for the fall term. DEDICATED TO GIVING BACK Our fall philanthropy event, Pi Phiesta, was a huge success! We raised money for Read > Lead > Achieve and had a great time eating Mexican food while listening to live music. We are in the midst of planning our spring event, Pi Phi on the Porch, with a delicious pasta dinner. Many of our members are already doing a great job volunteering at Alps Road Elementary and Books for Keeps. BUILDING PHILANTHROPIC COMMUNITIES Each semester, our chapter is paired with another Panhellenic sorority to plan a sisterhood event. This past fall, we had Nedza's Waffles come to our chapter house and the sisters of Pi Beta Phi and Kappa Alpha Theta came together to collect donations for the Athens Area Humane Society while enjoying sweet waffles. Both of our vice presidents of communications for the 2017 and 2018 terms were elected as the Panhellenic Council's community service committee directors. These committee directorships are pivotal since they plan events for the entire Panhellenic community, including events to promote bonding across the council. A Georgia Alpha salute to these two outstanding members. MARK YOUR CALENDARS This past fall, we had an Alumnae Tailgate at the Pi Beta Phi chapter house on Milledge Avenue. This was a great reunion of alumnae and their friends. Our vice president of communications planned this event, and we are so thankful that our in-house members were able to show alumnae their rooms. On April 7, Pi Beta Phi Founders' Day will be hosted at the Georgia Center of Continuing Education in Athens. This will be a day filled with networking, chapter awards and friendships. This is one of our chapter members' favorite events of the year. We cannot wait to come together and celebrate 151 years of Pi Beta Phi. FIVE NEW ANGELS WELCOMED So far in 2018, the new executive council has taken the initiative to bring new ideas and plans for our members. After learning new strategies at College Weekend in St. Louis, we are excited to implement new events while delegating to committees and members as to keep everyone involved. Five New Members have been welcomed into the chapter, and we love watching our chapter grow! Already planning for next semester, the executive council and chapter are ready for new ideas and events, including more sisterhood events within member classes as well as chapterwide, unique social and recruitment events, and a greater presence and participation in the Panhellenic community. We encourage our members and alumnae to stay tuned for an exciting 2018 year. THANK YOU, ALUMNAE We would like to extend a tremendous thank-you to our alumnae, both within the Athens area and those who may be farther away. We are so grateful for your support; we appreciate your words and acts of encouragement. We invite you to join us at any time at our home at 886 South Milledge Avenue, and look forward to seeing you.
