ties for the new members to attempt. The set of
five activities challenged the participants to work
as cohesive teams and practice communication
and leadership skills. After each activity was
completed, the whole group reflected on what
they did and discussed lessons learned, as well
as various applicable leadership and communi-
cation techniques. All members involved had a
great time and look forward to helping teach new
members with this event in the future.
This semester is already filling up with quite the
schedule of events. We started the semester with
our annual Martin Luther King Jr. service day and
having our first rite of passage, Sigma and Phi, on
January 21. During the month of April, the chap-
ter will be hosting a self-defense class taught by
Take Defense, which will be open to the entire
campus for anyone to participate. This event is
possible thanks to the funds raised through our
Sexual Assault Awareness Week during Novem-
ber. I believe that Missouri Gamma is in a solid
position within campus and the community.
Man Things is an annual event that is sched-
uled, prepared, and run by the entire brother
mentor group. Brother mentor challenge par-

Left: Everybody had a great time watching the SigEp band perform at the 2017 pyrotechnics show. This
show is the final exam for an upper level mining class where the class must match the fireworks with the
song. Sigma Phi Epsilon has been asked to perform for this class many times now, and will continue in the
future. Right: We are proud of Casey Slattery '17 (under the flag) for being commissioned into the Air Force.
Thank you for serving our country. He will be moving to California to start training for his new career.

ticipants contribute by cooking an assortment
of "manly" foods and doing presentations on a
variety of "manly" topics. The food varies from
year to year, from chili to jambalaya or kebabs,
with sides ranging from candied bacon to buf-
falo chicken dip. Before, during, and after food
is being eaten we have one or two brother men-
tors present about a topic of their choosing.
Whether they're learning about brewing from an
Anheuser-Busch co-op, developing professional
skills based around golf etiquette, or practicing
tying bow-ties, our younger members always en-
joy the night and our presenters get to develop
presentation and cooking skills that they will use
long after they graduate.
In addition to these Chapter activities there are
a couple of brothers who will be marrying dur-
ing the month of April: Jacob Francka '17 will
marry Ellen Castellano, and Chris Catlett '18
will marry Amanda Broughton.
The Chapter is actively preparing for the Fall '18
semester when we implement the first phase of
SigEp's Substance Free Facility program. Start-
ing in Fall '18, there will be no alcohol allowed
in the public spaces of the house. If you have any
questions, please contact me at lmwc65@mst.edu.
