Our Plan for the Future of Nu T he Nu alumnae and undergraduate leadership have developed a comprehensive plan to address the long-term viability of the Chi Omega experience on the University of Wisconsin campus. Over the past two years, the house corporation has addressed the immediate needs of our 112-year-old chapter house by replacing the boiler, repairing the back staircase, updating controls on the radiators, and adding air conditioning units to all rooms. Additionally, aesthetic and technological updates to the library, chapter study room, and living room (which now serves as the chapter room) were made. Even with those improvements and repairs, our home still needs attention. Through careful study, assessment, and planning, it has been determined that updates and maintenance to the chapter house are necessary, and we must invest in our home to meet the needs of today's students. Building plans have been submitted and approved by the City of Madison building department and have passed the historical review. Estimated Project Cost Phase One: $150,000 Exterior Tuckpointing Phase Two: $350,000 Bathroom and Dining Room Renovation Phase Three: $500,000 Attic Conversion TOTAL $1,000,000 to be in the best sense, democratic rather than "exclusive", and lovable rather than "popular"; Exterior Tuckpointing Summer 2018 • Significant repair to the mortar and brickwork of the entire structure is needed to prevent further damage • Extensive tuckpointing of the masonry repair, including removing and replacing rotted mortar and applying waterproof sealant • Repair flashings on roof to prevent moisture from entering structure • Window repair and/or replacement, where needed Project costs are preliminary and for discussion purposes only.
