U rged to participate in recruitment by his roommates, Brian Brackemyre '85 went along with the process to avoid sitting home alone for two nights. On the final night of recruitment, Beta Zeta was the last chapter he visited. "I knew immediately I wanted to be there," he said. "The chapter was full of diverse guys with varying backgrounds and interest. There was a positive and cool energy about the place." During his undergraduate years, Brian served as Corresponding Secretary and remembers the feeling of camaraderie and support from his brothers. "It's hard to feel alone in a strong chapter like Beta Zeta," he said. "Currently, there are only four active fraternities on Butler's campus. Chapters are closing rapidly, yet Beta Zeta not only survives, it grows. While other chapters close, Beta Zeta undertook a large expansion and has not looked back." Brian first became involved as an alumnus on the House Corporation Board, serving several years as President, and later, serving as Chapter Advisor. "I never felt the job was work," he said. "The men of Beta Zeta always made it easy to be a part of something greater than you." Throughout the years, Brian has visited the Shelter and loves the times he's been able to catch up with old friends. He encourages alumni who have lost touch with the chapter to return to Butler for Homecoming and reconnect with Beta Zeta brothers. "It's amazing how welcomed you'll feel," he said. "Both college and the fraternity experience are what you put into it. I was fortunate to see great strength and determination modeled for me." Brian lives in Zionsville, Ind., and can be reached at bbrackem@icloud.com. 2017 CHAPTER OFFICERS President Parker Chalmers '19 Cincinnati, Ohio Internal Vice President Lucas Hoepner '19 Batavia, Ill.
