Beta Zeta Chapter I Delta Tau Delta Fraternity I Butler University I Fall 2017 A LIFE COMMITTED TO EXCELLENCE Recognizing Those Among Us www.butlerdelts.com @ButlerDelts Delta Tau Delta – Butler University FOLLOW US ONLINE " T h e d a y a m e m b e r t a k e s h i s O a t h , h e b e g i n s h i s pursuit of a life committed to excellence." The men of Beta Zeta Chapter in its 139th year at Butler University continue to set the bar of excellence for Delt chapters across the country and for Greek life on Butler's campus. The chapter's success is a direct reflection of both the men in the chapter today and those Delts who preceded them. The connections we forge over the years and the ones we maintain with the chapter and our brothers build bonds that last a lifetime. A HOMECOMING TRADITION Now in its eighth year, the annual Alumni Cocktail and Dinner Reception held on the Friday evening before Homecoming marks a special time for Beta Zeta alumni and their guests to reconnect, meet current undergraduates, and visit the Shelter. This year, with more than 140 alumni and guests in attendance, it was hard not to turn around and see someone you did not know. Both younger and older generations alike were sharing stories and toasting to the evening. As the tradition continues, our annual Alumni Cocktail event is where we recognize select seniors. The awards presentation on October 20 was standing room only in the new Matt White Wing. REFLECTION AND RECOGNITION Recognizing extraordinary achievers, both undergraduates and alumni alike, is important. This year, we recognized three undergraduates with the Everett M. Schofield Scholarship. The annual Schofield Scholarship was created in 1962 through his endowment. This allows us to award the scholarship specifically to Beta Zeta seniors who exemplify being a service-minded and have made a significant impact on Beta Zeta, Butler University, and the community. Of the many applications received, we are pleased to announce this year's winners, Patrick Holden '20, Andrew Thompson '18, and Ben Evans '19. N e w t h i s y e a r, t h e c h a p t e r a l s o presented awards to five committed and distinguished alumni. The James B. Curtis Alumni Service Award recognizes two alumni that have selflessly devoted their time and talents to the betterment of Delta Tau Delta. Congratulations to Greg Budney ʼ07 and Russell Nichols '02. The Winstan "Bud" Sellick Alumni Achievement Award recognizes alumni who have displayed similar success in their careers and have given back to Delta Tau Delta and their community. Congratulations, Steve Vedra '02 and David Wachter '89! The Paul Furnish Alumni Philanthropic Award recognizes a distinguished alumnus for his passion and service to his community and others. Congratulations, Jim Morrow '49! Homecoming this year was a time of tradition and the recognition that many of our life's paths are shaped by our Oath. With support from both alumni and undergraduate members, we hope to continue "our pursuit for a life committed to excellence." Fraternally, Matt Perkins '04 Vice President of Beta Zeta House Corporation Former chapter advisor, Greg Budney '07, and the current chapter advisor, Chad Miller '09.
