Vice President Recruitment Maggie Greene '14 and Membership Coordinator Gabby Bopp '14 spent the summer organizing recommendations from alumnae and led our membership during the preparation workshops and recruitment. Additional recruitment council members included: Ali Carden '15, Tanner Fant '15, Mary Katherine Fort '15, Meredith Garing '15, Erin Rector '15, and Rebecca Shofner '15. Psi Chapter pledged 137 outstanding new members on Bid Day! FIFTH QUARTER INITIATIVE AT TLC Alpha Gamma Delta held its International Training Leadership Conference (TLC) on July 7-9 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Fifth Quarter Chairman Maddie Bryan '19, Chapter Advisor Lissa Tyson '83, and I represented Psi Chapter. The International Fraternity's new philanthropy, hunger, was unveiled to all the international chapters in attendance. Maddie and I led informational sessions on Fifth Quarter, Psi Chapter's local hunger initiative at the University of Alabama. We were joined by Dean Azar, the creator of Fifth Quarter, and his lovely wife, Julia Hastings Azar '78, who made the trip to Indianapolis to educate the International Fraternity on how to create a Fifth Quarter on campus for every Alpha Gamma Delta chapter. This fall, Psi Chapter began its fifth year of partnering with Phi Gamma Delta on the Fifth Quarter initiative. This program allows our members to package leftover food from football games, basketball games, and gymnastic meets at the University of Alabama. Since its inception five years ago, Psi Chapter members have assisted in the collection of 70,000 pounds of leftover food. This food is donated to the West Alabama Food Bank and is distributed to the hungry in the Tuscaloosa community—this is equivalent to 86,000 meals. This philanthropic effort is easily a favorite among our membership! HOMECOMING 2017 Under the direction of Monica Spence '18 and her assistants, Abby Grace Hornsby '19 and Jordan Walters '19, Psi Chapter participated in all SGA Homecoming activities. Sisterhood events were held all week at the chapter house as members spent time pomping and gluing the lawn decorations. Psi Chapter's newest members represented us in the Homecoming parade using the theme, "There's no place like Sweet Home Capstone," with a Wizard of Oz twist! Later in the day, we welcomed alumnae and guests to the chapter house for a game day meal after the parade. Psi Chapter took first place honors in the Homecoming basketball competition! NEW MEMBER PROGRAM AND INITIATION Blair Bonham '19 and Callie Cochran '19 served as the new member coordinators, leading our newest members in the new member Alpha program this fall. As soon as Bid Day festivities concluded, the 137 new members boarded buses and headed to their pledge retreat for two nights. On October 9, Psi Chapter's long-standing tradition of Big/Little Reveal was held, and new members were welcomed into their Psi families. After a week of sisterhood activities organized by Sisterhood Chairman Mary Logan Kelley '19, Psi Chapter initiated its new members on October 20. Mothers, sisters, and grandmothers were on hand to pin their legacies during the initiation services held at the chapter house. Kate Culverhouse '18 did a splendid job as ritual chairman, organizing us for this special event. The Feast of Roses was held the following day at the chapter house before the Alabama vs. Tennessee game, and new initiates were the honored guests along with their families. THANK YOU, LOYAL ALUMNAE Psi Chapter placed third in scholarship during the spring 2017 semester. We finished the semester with a 3.6 GPA, well above the 3.3 all-women's Greek GPA. It has been an honor and privilege to serve as president. Thank you for everything you do to support Psi Chapter!
