THE LAMBDA LETTER FALL 2017 ALUMNI NEWSLETTER OF THE LAMBDA CHAPTER OF SIGMA CHI INSIDE: 2 Alumni Update n 3 Lambda Upholds Values n 4 Welcome 2017 Fall Pledges ALUMNI SUPPORT NEEDED TO KEEP LAMBDA STRONG Lambda 2017-2018 Annual Campaign Begins F rom our founding to the present, Sigma Chi has created a heritage and a legacy of values that our alumni can be proud of. The impact of our heritage and values can consistently be seen on the IU campus and in our communities, whether it is in high academic achievement, leadership, or involvement in civic activities. We traditionally have been leaders on campus, in the classroom, and on the athletic field. As alumni, we have gone on to become leaders within our communities and career fields. Many of us are able to trace the roots of our success to Lambda Chapter. The legacy we received through the Fraternity—character and values, leadership skills, organizational skills, social skills, and teamwork—has been an integral part of our personal success stories. Our heritage and traditions are upheld and continued today by an outstanding group of undergraduate men. This legacy does not just happen by chance. Their efforts are augmented by the loyal support of our alumni. Together, our ever-changing membership has created and continued a true institution at IU—one in which we can all take great pride. Last year, we initiated an annual giving program for alumni for Chapter House repairs and improvement. We raised almost $12,000, which is well above the average of other fraternities after beginning an annual fundraising program. The new fiscal year began on July 1 and we are hoping to raise more funds in our second year of the annual program and increase our number of donors by at least 20%. More than five years ago we successfully completed our capital campaign, and we have a beautiful Chapter House to be proud of in Bloomington. This annual program is a vital step in continuing to ensure our investment and secure our future. Please, consider supporting this annual effort and take time to send in your gift today! You, as a Sigma Chi, are a vital component in continuing this legacy as well. By sending a gift to Lambda Chapter's annual campaign, you will know that you are helping us in our efforts to encourage, in every way we can, all alumni to become active participants in building on our proud heritage and traditions. "As a kid, my dad, William Chambers '54, always referenced his brothers, or 'Sigs,' before I even knew what any of it meant. As I grew older, I started to notice that all of the significant people in his life, both business and personal friends, were all Sigma Chis." When Bill entered the brotherhood, he not only became a link to the family legacy, but also another link to Lambda Chapter's dedication to the Jordan Standard. "Joining Sigma Chi was my first real opportunity to become part of a group where the emphasis was on team building. It was a very humbling experience that has stayed with me throughout my life." Even after his undergraduate years with Lambda Chapter, Bill found himself wanting to give back to the organization that has played such a pivotal role in his life. An opportunity presented itself when Bill joined the board of Lambda Corporation. (Continued on page 2)
