G reetings, brothers. Hope you and yours are doing fine. This year's hurricanes that affected the Caribbean, Florida, Texas, and Louisiana—plus the fires in California— have directed much of our attention toward our families, their safety, and our future. We all truly hope and pray that everyone came out of these storms and other natural disasters safe and with minimal effect. The state of our Chapter is one of momentum. After the achievements of this past year, the goals for a great future for Florida Nu are taking shape. The legacy of our Chapter in the FIU Greek community has historically been one of "first," "leaders," "innovators," and many other positive descriptors that inspire us, the alumni of FIU SigEp, to carry on this legacy. We have several great events scheduled and many activities planned. See page 4 for what's to come. Gentlemen, we have an opportunity to engage and once again set a standard for others to emulate. Join us, get engaged, and make a difference. You can watch from the sidelines and see us grow, or you can jump in the game and help us reach our goals even faster. Have an outstanding Christmas and holiday season. God bless all my Florida Nu brothers and see you soon! The fraternity not only provided lasting friendships—it helped instill a commitment to service and giving back. This made a transition to a career in public service seamless. "Public service and helping those that need a hand have always been the primary reasons I decided to make public service a career," Steve said. As chairman of the board of county commission, his primary responsibilities include conducting the day-to-day functions of the board such as setting agendas, naming committees, and running the meetings. "Public service requires transparency and dedication," he said. "Elected officials, in order to be effective, must be able to listen and more importantly work to fulfill commitments made." Luis Collazo '95, Town of Miami Lakes Councilman As a city councilman, Luis brings the values he honed as a SigEp, specifically leading a balanced life and serving his neighbors. "It goes back to always finding ways to give back to the community and making the community better in some way," Luis said. "SigEp prepared me for this role by teaching the fundamentals of a balanced man and really serving with a servant's heart. You're there to service the people." F rom the halls of the Florida Nu Chapter House to their respective communities, Sigma Phi Epsilon men stand out for their commitment to bettering the world around them. We recently reconnected with four balanced men who inspire us by their civic engagement and dedication to others. (Continued on page 2)
