reetings, SigEp parents and alumni. I
am a proud parent of a sophomore FIU
SigEp. When Richard '20 was accepted at FIU
as a freshman, I was very excited for him. But
as a parent who was always involved in every
stage of my son's life, I wondered how college
would change him. Would he thrive in a new
environment with so many people from all over
the world? Could he make quality connections
with new friends and become involved in
college activities? Would I lose that intimate
involvement at this next stage of his life?
Of course I had no immediate answers, then one
day my son approached me and said he wanted
to join a fraternity. His determining factor for
SigEp was their motto, Building Balanced Men,
and soon thereafter he pledged. One year later,
he is a member of SigEp Florida Nu Chapter
and serves as recruitment chairman. He has
met many great young men who also share his
interests, and they interact frequently at many
events and social activities.
So, what about us parents? Do you want to keep
that connection with your college undergraduate
and support him during his college years? We
are all busy, but it's important to be in each
other's lives at all stages, because witnessing
our kids' personal development is what gives us
a sense of accomplishment on a job well done.
Besides, who doesn't like to attend a barbecue
or go to a football tailgate and maybe even catch
a baseball game together?
Our Parent Club would provide parents/
stepparents/guardians of all undergraduate
members a chance to support their son's SigEp
experience and collaborate with other parents
who share similar interests. Let's get to know
each other and build quality connections that
will last for many years.
