PAGE 2 Alpha Beta Chapter A lpha Beta Chapter House's living room facelift has been nearly two years in the making. This summer, the room was repainted with lovely, fresh colors. We purchased new window treatments, a sectional sofa, chairs, a rug, an ottoman, and recovered the cushions around the crescent. The room should provide more seating when the undergraduates hold chapter meetings, and will be a warm, inviting space for visitors and initiates. Many thanks to Robin Secord '85, who spearheaded this project, and to Carol Benson Antos '77, Janeth Hendershot '77, and Deborah Lathrop Lechner '77 for their work on the property committee. Thank you, again, for your loyal support. A ndrea Foster '96 was first drawn to sorority life in high school and never debated whether she would become a Greek in college. "I knew I wanted to be recruited by a chapter," she stated. "I felt a kinship with the sisters I met at Alpha Beta Chapter." To Andrea, the sisters were smart, personable, and fun. They were diverse and made her want to become a part of the Tri Delta sisterhood. As an active member in Alpha Beta, Andrea served as the vice president of membership during her junior year and lived in the Chapter House. She was later elected the vice president of recruitment and extension for the Panhellenic Association, which put her in charge of recruitment for the entire Cornell campus the following year. "Some of my favorite undergraduate memories are of the spontaneous late-night talks with other Alpha Betas at the dining room table," revealed Andrea. "We would have philosophical conversations, fascinating debates, recaps of our days/evenings, and share stories, laughter, tears, and dreams." Those pleasant and life- enhancing moments with Tri Delta sisters are what Andrea recalls most when revisiting her years with the active chapter. Andrea credits her learning experiences and involvement in Alpha Beta with helping her to be an effective leader in her present-day career. "The sisterhood provided me with a great support system back then and also now, especially as my career and personal life have evolved." She believes it's vital for new classes of Tri Delta sisters to not be afraid to try new things. "Get out of your comfort zone," suggests Andrea. "Don't fear failure, embrace it; use it as an opportunity to learn and grow." As the senior vice president of development for Marcus Hotels and Resorts, a Milwaukee, Wisconsin-based company, Andrea is able to fulfill and her lifelong passion for the hospitality industry. She was once the managing director of PKF Consulting/CBRE Hotels, running the firm's New England practice, and has served as vice president of business development and marketing for Miraval. Her career has included additional leadership roles in hotel operations on both the east and west coasts. Keeping connected with other Tri Delta alumnae is important to Andrea, who said, Women Supporting Women Andrea Foster '96 on Finding Fulfillment through Sisterhood (Continued on page 4) T ri Deltas from the 7s and 2s enjoyed the open house at the Delta Delta Delta house at 118 Triphammer Road on the Saturday of Cornell's Reunion Weekend. Three sisters from the class of 1977 are property and communication committee members and met early to finalize plans for the living room's redecoration. Pia Laaster Graham '77, Alison Dick '77, and Jean Jacobs Marcus '77 were all attending their first reunions and hadn't seen the house in 40 years! They admired the new tables and chairs in the dining room and enjoyed wandering around upstairs looking for their old bedrooms.
