Fraternally, Nick Principe '18 President (847) 345-8008 / njprincipe@crimson.ua.edu T he Alabama Chapter of Delta Chi has had many memorable periods during the 90 years since it was established in 1927. Based on the impressive record of the entire Chapter, as well as those of numerous individual student members, a good case can be made that the decade of the '50s is one of those memorable periods. In the fall of 1953, 45 young men were joined in what was the largest class ever in the old Chapter House behind Bidgood Hall. Delta Chi had a four-year run where it won first place in either the IFC float or lawn decoration competition. In the 1955 IFC Step Singing competition, we took first place. Our recording of "e Bond Song" was used by Delta Chi International Headquarters for the next 25 years at all official fraternity events. 1953 also saw the Chapter begin a period of sustained intramural sports success by winning its first- ever IFC football championship, defeating Sigma Chi 26-7 in the championship game that capped off an undefeated season. Johnny Gibson '54, our tailback, was one of the best to ever play intramural football. He was helped by several of the class, including Dan ompson '56, John Ed Willoughby '57, plus several upperclassman, Don Mace '57, Robert Joe Anthony '55, Louie Scholl '56 and Jim Dismukes '55. Much of the information above is available in more detail in three 1950s-era memory books. is article was written from memory and some inquiries made of a few '50s-era Brothers.
