Beta Tau Housing Corporation of Sigma Kappa at the University of Florida • Fall 2017 Beta Tau ConnSKtion T he fall semester is off to a great start at the Beta Tau chapter house! Since this is my first time corresponding with you, I would like to introduce myself, London Van Houten Cromwell '09, new Beta Tau house corporation president. I joined the house corporation in 2014 and have held the position of secretary previously. This spring, I stepped up into this role and I am very excited to work with the collegiate and alumnae sisters to make sure this is their home away from home. The past president, Jennifer Grinnan Lyons '04, left big shoes to fill as she did an amazing job facilitating the rebuild of the house and putting everything in place for a great fall semester. At the annual meeting this spring, Julia Knight '06, Kayli Shlomi '08, and Genevieve Howard '12 were also voted onto the house corporation board. We are so thrilled to have them offering their insights, leadership, and skills. This summer, on behalf of the house corporation, Genevieve hosted the second annual alumnae sleepover. We welcomed sisters of all generations to stay overnight in our new home where they enjoyed reliving their college days with dinner in the dining room, exploring new venues in midtown, movies in the TV room, yoga on the back patio, and so much more. We were elated with the turnout and look forward to seeing many more sisters at our upcoming alumnae events. The first fall event is SK Career Day on November 5 hosted by collegiate VP of Alumnae Relations, Lillie Gillmore '15. Gainesville alumnae and the Beta Tau chapter walked together at the Walk to End Alzheimer's on October 21. Next up is our annual tailgate scheduled for November 18 when our Gators take on the University of Alabama Birmingham. Be on the lookout for the invitation and we hope to see you there! Go Gators! In August, the collegians and staff returned for the second year in our new home. Recruitment went spectacularly and you can read more about the chapter in the update from Bella Anzalone '14. Unfortunately, the year started with a lot of wind and rain from hurricane Irma, but we are happy to announce that the sorority house survived the weather with little damage. Our hearts go out to those sisters who were impacted by Harvey, Irma, and Maria. We are looking forward to another great year and continued alumnae engagement. Stay tuned for invitations to chapter and house corporation events throughout the year. If you are looking to get involved, please reach out to me at skhouseuf@gmail. com. There is never a shortage of opportunities for volunteers! In Sigma Kappa, London Van Houten Cromwell '09 Beta Tau Housing Corporation President skhouseuf@gmail.com The City of Gainesville recognized our new chapter house for a City Beautification award. Thank you to our entire design and construction team for your efforts! Pictured are Julia Knight '06, Jennifer Grinnan Lyons '04, and Carly Van Ostrand Autrey '05.
