The University has eliminated the office of fraternity and sorority life. The governing bodies for fraternities (IFC) and sororities (PHC) no longer have dedicated university staff and advisors. Without this support our councils are struggling to provide adequate educational programming for chapters. We were told if we want additional support, we need to hire our own advisors, accountants, student employees, investigators, etc. which is not financially feasible. We were asked to vacate our current office space on campus. We no longer receive advice or support when handling judicial matters, many of which are serious allegations with sensitive material college aged students should not have to maneuver alone. Despite these changes our council is making great strides to move forward. I presented to the Union Governing Board (UGB) and received their recommendation to remain in our current office space. Two weeks later the University urged UGB to remove the councils, but the board upheld their decision and the office space will remain. I am working on separating our finances from the University and managing the finances for all 26 fraternities. We are asking alumni of the Greek community to help serve and guide our fraternity and sorority leaders. Now, more than ever, alumni need to be aware of the negative impacts these changes have had on our fraternities and sororities, as well as all other student organizations at Kansas State. I ask for your help in sharing this information with other alumni. To ensure the longevity of Greek life at K-State we need alumni involved and engaged in what is happening in the community. My time in SigEp has been the highlight of my college career, as I hope that it was for you. I want any incoming student who chooses to join the Greek system to have the same opportunity, with support and advisors to ensure a safe and rewarding experience. If you have questions, concerns, or advice please contact me at lcrenz@ksu.edu. I hope this sheds some light on the issues facing our Greek community and I look forward to celebrating 100 years of SigEp Kansas Beta with you all in February. Fraternally, Lucas Renz '17 Interfraternity Council President Reorganization of Greek Life Support At K-State
