It was perhaps a fi rst of its kind event for the Chamber and perhaps in the community. More than 250 persons fi lled the Airborne & Special Operations Museum to be introduced to these new leaders, to mingle and hopefully form new acquaintances. The event was sponsored by Chamber Board members: Select Bank, H&H Homes, Coldwell Banker, The Insurance Guy – Jerome Scott, Two Men and a Truck, and B&B Catering, which also provided scrumptious food and drink. So why was the event so signifi cant? It gathered leaders of organizations representing business, sports, the arts, government, human services and the military. Groups which all have supporting their community as part of their genetic makeup. But many times, each is so busy with the task at hand it doesn't have time to seek out other entities who may be able to help with the work, or provide important linkages. The reception was a starting point for those connections to happen. To start the evening, the Cumberland Oratorio Singers rendered the National Anthem with 20 harmonized voices; and George Breece offered an invocation that reminded us all of the plight of those in Texas. In addition to getting to know each person's professional background, attendees were also let in on favorite foods, sports teams, hobbies, special talents, and what each one hopes to accomplish in their new role. Emcee Gary Rogers with Beasley Media, also a Chamber Board member, proved that each was a good sport with a good sense of humor. It was a fi tting end to the offi cial part of the ceremony, when Rogers led the group in a toast for the future, one coined by the Chamber's Event Director Kelly Moore, "Unity in the Community."
