2 GREEK WEEK I had the pleasure of working with Trevor El- mitt '15 (Memphis, Tenn.) as co-chairman of 2017 Greek Week. Our role was one of a man- ager, representing the 100-plus members of Ep- silon Chapter, and coordinating the many events that make up Iowa State Greek Week. Epsilon Chapter was paired with Delta Delta Delta, The- ta Chi, and Phi Kappa Theta. Our team had al- most 400 members between the four organiza- tions. At Vespers, our team, appropriately named IV League, came home with five trophies: First in Lip Sync, first in community service, first in total money raised for Special Olympics, second in Olympics, and second overall. We were very proud of our hard work and happy to see that it resulted in one of the best Greek Week perfor- mances by the Epsilon Chapter in many years. - Co-Chairman Jake Shoemaker E-2249 '15 (Omaha, Nebraska) ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP BANQUET RECOGNIZES 56 MEMBERS Each spring, Epsilon Chapter hosts its annual scholarship banquet. This year, the banquet was held at the Quality Inn Conference Center in Ames, Iowa. The banquet consists of a formal dinner and scholarship award ceremony made possible by the Epsilon Chapter Education Fund. The endowed fund is constantly growing due to new donations and is currently valued at over $1 million. This endowment is broken up into 23 specific awards that have requirements to honor the memories of past Fraters and housemothers. Fraters earned second place overall in 2017 Greek Week after a solid performance across multiple categories. Greek Week and Academics and Conclave—Oh My! Frater Roger Underwood E-1239 '76 hosted the event and provided the history, meaning, and significance of each award. This year we gave $56,300 to more than 50 members because of the generosity of our alumni. ACADEMIC PLAN FOR NEW MEMBERS Throughout the next two semesters, Epsilon plans on working hard with the underclassmen to regain the academic prowess that we had just semesters ago. The main focus will be starting freshmen off properly, paired with successful up- perclassmen who will help guide their transition into college. This plan has been put together with the work of the Hegemon, Hypophetes, and oth- er past cabinet members. This underclassman program includes weekly meetings, information about SI sessions, tu- toring, and lessons on studying skills. With the transition from high school to college being one More than $53,000 in scholarships was awarded to 56 deserving Tekes at this year's scholarship banquet. from structure to freedom, the goal is to have all new members constructively use this freedom to help make a better world. The hope is that by starting the future of Epsilon on the right foot, we can ensure that the next generation of Fraters will be some of the best that Epsilon has ever seen. - Hypophetes Evan Wieczorek E-2256 '16 (Pallatine, Ill.) CONCLAVE TAKES 12 FRATERS TO NEW ORLEANS On August 4th, 12 members of Epsilon began the 15-hour trip to New Orleans for the 2017 TKE Conclave. On their way down they made a quick detour to St. Jude Children's Research Hospi- tal. Even though it required driving through the night to be in Memphis for the 8 a.m. tour time, it was an incredible opportunity to see firsthand the facilities, equipment, and patients that fund- raising for St. Jude goes to help. Over the next four days these members would get to experience everything Conclave and New Orleans had to offer. This included educational sessions, meetings of the Grand Chapter, meet- ing other Tekes from around the nation, volun- teering around New Orleans, visiting Bourbon Street, and trying creole food. And as you saw the front-page news, Epsilon Chapter received our 24th Top TKE award— the sixth Top TKE in a row for Epsilon. Members who attended Conclave said it was an experience they will never forget. - Histor Derek Thilges E-2265 '16 (Ames, Iowa)
