Meals are a $2.50 suggested donation and $6 for those younger than 60. Reservations for all locations are available one day in advance at 527-2414. Two percent milk is served with each meal. Light of leadership, of the world I was doing a bit of thinking in regard to the leadership of our country, our communities, our schools, churches businesses and our homes. It was a thought that came to me unexpectedly as I was determined not to get into a heated discussion about our current leader- ship without doing some thoughtful research and careful analyzing of subject matter. In general most of us do not choose leadership positions. Why? The most standard reply to this is that it is just too much work to take on the leadership of most anything especially a country. In general the average populace think of leaders as being super smart, efficient and responsible. The fact is that at points in our lives, we become a leader of something or someone. To be in a leadership role we simply take actions to exhibit our real car- ing about a person or an enterprise. Without leaders, we would all be between a rock and a hard place, as the old saying goes. Leaders are not always honored, but they are always heard, vocally or vicariously. It becomes our responsibility to listen carefully, be slow to jump to negative conclu- sions, control our verbal thoughts until we have researched a subject care- fully before we make criti- cisms that are unfounded. As a preschooler once said to me, "this is too hard working," as he struggled to print his name. Being a leader is definitely hard working, being a careful listener and seeker of facts can be equally as hard. One Sunday each year a leadership is acknowledged by many people. On that Sunday we celebrate Easter, the resurrection of Jesus Christ who led humans into the path of faith. Jesus knew the anguish he would suffer at the hands of those who never understood, yet he took the path to the cross to allow his followers to experience faith under the hardest of circumstances. At the hands of torturers, He withstood and with His dying breath he forgave a thief on the cross next to him, telling him that he would be in heaven with Jesus. As the women went to the tomb in which Christ was buried, they found the stone rolled away, the tomb empty. Carolyn Barber Christ was resurrected and continued to be the light of the world. The sacrifice and res- urrection of Jesus allowed Him to be the light of the world, a bea- con on the path for all those who do not really understand and Christian believers, who do. The path is symbolic as a light recognizing human need and faith, a light showing the sad- ness of the crucifixion being washed away by the resurrection of Christ. Easter is a reminder that each of us must keep our lights burning, shinning in leadership whether our path is a walk of faith or the path of needs for our fellow citizens, chil- dren, or families and our country. Toastmasters contest Courtesy photo Cheryl Weibling and Barbara Kurbanick represented the Red Bluff Sunrise Speakers Toastmasters at the Area 31 International Speech Contest in Chico. These two new members charged ahead with great vigor articulating inspirational speeches. Weibling placed third in the speech contest and first in the evaluation contest. The next level of competition is in April at Redding.
