Meteor Men Make a Splash by STEPHANIE CRIDER Up & Coming Weekly recently heard from Meteor Men. Here's a look at what the band has been up to. UCW: Who are your band members and what instruments do they play? UCW: Where do you see the band fi ve years, 10 years from now? MM: Five years from now we hope to be touring Denmark, Italy, Spain and Japan. In 10 years, probably back at the beach banging out surf tunes for the tourists again. UCW: Where can Fayetteville music lovers check you out in the near future? We auditioned and hired a new guitar player and basically went "all in" with the Surf/Instro format. UCW: How did the band get its name? MM: We are The Meteor Men. We all love the old sci-fi B movies and thought that the name would work well for branding. We also perform quite a few "spacey" sounding Instro tunes in our sets. UCW: How would you defi ne your music? MM: Surf. Instro. Original. Rockabilly. UCW: Who are your favorite bands/infl uences on your music? MM: The Ventures, Dick Dale, The Astronauts, Los Straitjackets, Link Wray. UCW: Do you write your own music and where does that inspiration come from? MM: Yes, we do write our own music. Most of our original stuff is inspired by a meld of old-school surf sounds, spy fi lms, sci-fi B movies and early rock instro artisits like Link Wray. UCW: If you only had two words to describe your band what would they be? MM: Supersonic reverb! UCW: What are your hopes/goals for the future of your band? MM: We'd like to get a gig in New York City this year (fi ngers crossed). Sutherland plays the guitar. UCW: Give us a brief history lesson on the band. When and where did you get started?
