2A Daily News– Wednesday, September 26, 2012 Community people&events Free prescription drug collection event A free Prescription Drug Take Back Day will be held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Tehama County Sher- iff's Department on the corner of Antelope Boulevard and Highway 36E in Red Bluff and the Corning Police Department on the corner of 3rd and Solano streets in Corning. This is a great opportunity for Tehama County resi- dents to safely dispose of accumulated unwanted and unused prescription drugs anonymously. Only prescrip- tion drugs in solid pill or liquid form will be accepted during this event. Intra-venous solutions, sharps (injecta- bles, needles, lancets, etc) and illicit substances will not be accepted during the event. Call the Tehama County Sanitary Landfill Agency for more information regarding the proper disposal of sharps at 528-1103 or visit www.tehamacountylandfill.com. Improper disposal of prescription drugs threatens public health and safety. Removing potentially danger- ous prescription drugs, particularly controlled sub- stances, from our nation's medicine cabinets is vital to ensure the drugs aren't within reach of abusers. Some 2,500 teens use prescription drugs each day to get high for the first time, according to the Partnership for a Drug Free America. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including the home medicine cabinet. Stir-fry Fettuccine Stir-fry Fettuccine is from the 1993 National Beef Cook-Off. This recipe for Sirloin 1 boneless top sirloin steak, cut 1 inch thick (approx 2 1/4 lbs) 1 package (9 ounces) refrigerated uncooked fet- tuccine salt 1 package (8 ounces) sliced fresh mushrooms 4 pickled hot or mild cherry peppers, seeded, cut into thin strips or a red pepper cut in strips (optional) cheese 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley Seasoning: 2 tablespoons olive oil 3 cloves garlic, crushed 3/4 teaspoon pepper Dispose of prescription drugs responsibly. Participate in the free collection event to ensure pharmaceuticals are not polluting the water supply and to reduce substance availability to unintended citizens. This event is hosted by the Tehama County Sheriff's Department and Corn- ing Police Department. For further event information, please contact the Corning Police Department at 530- 824-7015. In addition, pharmaceuticals, antibiotics, steroids and similar substances have been detected in the nation's drinking water due to improper prescription drug dispos- al. Waste water treatment systems are not designed to remove such substances; therefore, prescription drugs flushed directly into the sewer system potentially impact human health through exposure in drinking water and soil contamination.
