Led by our Homecoming chairman, Monica Spence '14, Alpha Gamma Delta placed third overall in UA's Homecoming. ALPHA GAMMA DELTA INITIATES 148 NEW MEMBERS On November 13, Psi Chapter welcomed 148 new members. New initiates, their parents, and special guests enjoyed the Feast of Roses at the Capstone Sheraton following the initiation ceremony. Emory Johnston '14 and I served as their new member coordinators. Our new member class was made up of 51 percent in-state women and 49 percent out-of-state women. Seventy-five percent of our new members were from SEC states, and 21.5 percent are originally from Birmingham, Ala. We are excited to announce that 15 percent of our new members were Alpha Gamma Delta legacies. We were thrilled to welcome them into our membership and we look forward to supporting them as they flourish at the University of Alabama. PSI CHAPTER AWARDED DIAMOND CHAPTER FOR ACADEMIC SUCCESS Alpha Gamma Delta placed third overall in scholarship among UA sororities with a 3.55 GPA for the fall semester, which is well above the all- Greek women's average of 3.3. We are pleased to announce that 111 members of Psi Chapter had a perfect 4.0 during the fall 2016 semester. Alpha Gamma Delta International awarded Psi with the Diamond Chapter designation, in recognition of attaining the highest scholastic honor of an Alpha Gamma Delta Chapter. SISTERS VOLUNTEER WITH FIFTH QUARTER INITIATIVE We returned to campus in January with 455 members, our highest membership to date. We celebrated our fifth year of the Fifth Quarter initiative, a program the men of Phi Gamma Delta invited us to join, where we package food from leftover athletic events and distribute it each week to the West Alabama Food Bank. Our members treasure the time they spend volunteering with Fifth Quarter during UA football, basketball, and gymnastic events. The Fifth Quarter initiative saved, repacked, and distributed more than 12,000 pounds of food from home football games, which provided more than 20,000 meals to those in need in Tuscaloosa and west Alabama. THOUSANDS RAISED FOR PHILANTHROPY Philanthropy continues to be a priority with Brittany Johnson '14 serving as our philanthropy chairman. In January, we hosted our annual THREADS event. Our chapter house was transformed into a pop-up thrift shop, and we welcomed more than 800 student shoppers and raised more than $2,000. Our annual Parent's Weekend was March 3-4. We raised $2,600 for the Alpha Gamma Delta International Foundation at our silent auction while enjoying a fun night of celebrating with our parents. This past fall, Alpha Gamma Delta's International philanthropy focus was changed from JDF to hunger. We added another philanthropic effort called Secret Meals for Hungry Children, where we pack after-school meals for children that rely heavily on free and reduced cost lunches during the school day. In April, we opened the Alpha Gam chapter house for a concert by our very own Jessica Procter '14 and her band that raised more than $1,000 for Children's Miracle Network. SENIOR SISTER WINS ALABAMA'S HIGHEST HONOR Many of our members were a part of Honor's Day Tapping on the Mound. I am thrilled to announce that we have one member tapped into XXXI, three members tapped into Anderson Society, six members into Mortar Board, eight members in Blue Key Honor Society, and six members tapped into Omicron Delta Kappa. I am also honored to announce that one of our seniors, Caroline Morrison '13, was awarded the Sullivan Premier Award, the highest award given on campus. We are so proud of these outstanding women of our chapter! We had our inaugural Alpha Gammies, where members had the opportunity to nominate their sisters for awards to honor them for their devotion to the chapter and the university. We spent every last second being intentional with our sisters before we had to leave each other for summer! But before we know it, we will be back together in the fall for recruitment!
