E-mail: candy@streetreachintl.com W hen Amy Andrews Henderson '98 first joined Psi Chapter, she immediately felt at home, surrounded by genuine women who all had a common purpose. Throughout her undergraduate years, Alpha Gamma Delta taught her various skills that prepared her for life after graduation. To give back to the chapter that taught her so much, Amy serves the chapter as president of the House Association. "Psi Chapter taught me leadership, communication, and networking skills and how to work in a group and handle difficult conversations," she said. "But most importantly, it gave me a group of women of all ages that I call sisters and who are amazing supporters." In her role as House Association president, Amy oversees other officers on the board, works with the property advisor to ensure chapter house maintenance is up to date, and works with the university regarding any repairs and renovations. To Amy, having a supportive House Association board is important to keep the chapter house competitive with other Alabama sororities. "The House Association protects the assets of the chapter," she said. "We have the opportunity to serve with an impressive leadership team who are also good friends." During her undergraduate years, Martha Nabers '62 had a positive impact on Amy's collegiate experience, and to this day, if Martha looks at Amy over her glasses, she immediately listens. Amy advises current undergraduates to utilize the opportunities they have as Alabama students and Alpha Gamma Delta sisters, whether through leadership roles, mentoring programs, and networking. "Take advantage of opportunities and never give up," she said. "Enjoy your time at UA and make the most of every moment." Amy has worked in education for 12 years, and for the past three years, she has worked as the director of career services at Shelton State Community College. She and her husband, Philip, have three children, Mary Hayes, Anna Cate, and William. The family lives in Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Amy can be reached at ahenderson@sheltonstate.edu.
