CatChing the entrepreneurial Spirit Spotlight on Terry Arnold McCarthy '73 Being an entrepreneur isn't just a job title, and it isn't just about starting a company. It's a state of mind. It's about seeing connections others can't, seizing opportunities others won't, and forging new directions that others haven't."—Tory Burch T erry Arnold McCarthy '73 has had an extraordinary career. She founded Prodigy Search Group in 2012, a full-service executive recruiting firm specializing in the med- ical device, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology industries, after a successful career in medical device marketing and sales for companies such as USGI Medical, Applied Medical, and Allergan. Terry's broad industry experience and contacts enables the firm to identify candidates who are not only technically qual- ified but fit well into each company's unique culture and environment. "Orange County, where we are headquartered, is the third-largest hub for medical devices in the country," Terry says. "After many years in the industry, I have the contacts to attract both clients and candidates and I understand the requirements of a regulated industry." Terry's entrepreneurial spirit was also present in 1992 when, as the mother of young triplet girls, she founded Mainly Multiples. "I was working in a fast-paced business and wanted to travel less. At the time there was very little available for parents of multiples. You couldn't find a birth announce- ment or other items." After a very successful seven-year run, Terry sold the company after an interested buyer approached her. Terry has a bachelor's degree in business from USC and an MBA in marketing from Boston University. During graduate school, she lived with Carol Gordon Penniman '73, who received her MBA from Boston College. It was Carol who introduced Terry to her husband, Dick, a fellow MBA student, setting them up on a blind date. Terry and Dick, who live in Coto de Caza, California, have triplet daughters: Caroline, Julie, and Leigh, who all live close by with their husbands and children. Caroline, who was pres- ident of Kappa Alpha Theta at UCLA, is a manager at Deloitte Consulting. Julie, a University of Arizona Delta Gamma, served her chapter as social chairman and is coordinator, primary instruction, for the Irvine Unified School District. Leigh was president of Alpha Chi Omega at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and is senior vice president, account director at Deutsch.
