APRIL 6 Town of Quartzsite invites every- one to attend the next meeting of Neighborhood Watch at 6:00 PM, on THURSDAY, APRIL 6, 2017, at the Quartzsite Com- munity Center. Chief William Ponce said he looks forward to working with the resi- dents to create a safer community. Launched in 1972, Neighbor- hood Watch counts on citizens to organize themselves and work with law enforcement to keep a trained eye and ear on their communities, while demonstrating their pres- ence at all times of day and night. Sponsored by the National Sher- iffs' Association (NSA), the Nation- al Crime Prevention Council says, "Neighborhood watch is one of the oldest and most effective crime prevention programs in the coun- try, bringing citizens together with law enforcement to deter crime and make communities safer." This gave me time to regroup, enjoy a short, refreshing visit with my daughter, and do something totally different. Visiting with my daughter was a true blessing. Being so busy this winter, I haven't had much chance to visit with friends or family. A friend of mine recently reminded me that life is not all about work. She told me to get out there and "Go play!" Springtime brings out the natural urges to get outside. Realizing that the heat will soon be upon us, this time of year is truly a wonderful time to get outside and get things done. As the season winds down, it's also time to regroup and get ready for next season. But, we need to take time to enjoy the desert fl ow- "Once you replace negative thoughts with positive ones, you'll start having positive results." ~Willie Nelson I drove a school bus, a morning-only run. I didn't want too, but it's like a civic duty, as a volunteer except you were paid. Revealing? Yes. Entertaining? Yes. Boring? No. Troublesome kids? A few. Wonderful kids. Many. I was always wide awake for my regular job. My boss really liked that. ers, before their blooms fade. Research published in the Jour- nal of Aging Health shows that get- ting outside on a daily basis may help older people stay healthy and functioning longer. Participants in the study who spent time outdoors every day at age 70 showed fewer complaints of aching bones or sleep problems, among other health-re- lated problems, at age 77 than those who did not head outside each day. Seattle-based environmental psy- chologist Judith Heerwagon tells The Huffi ngton Post. "Just looking at a garden or trees or going for a walk, even if it's in your own neigh- borhood, reduces stress," she says. We all need a little reminder to take care of ourselves, so I thank my friend for the "gentle" push. Our retired friends know all this, but those of us working all those crazy hours, sometimes we need to be reminded. So consider this your reminder, too. Go Play!
