PAGE 3 oUr neeDs anD opportUnities O ur home, which we took possession of in 1921, undoubtedly plays a significant role in the development of our sisters and serves as a proud symbol of our shared values and goals. Furthermore, it is one of the top factors a potential new member considers before joining a sorority and directly correlates to our success in recruitment. Studies have actually shown that residential facilities are the second most important factor in the college decision-making process behind the availability of a student's intended major. This is understandable considering that students spend 70% of their time within their place of residence. After nearly 100 years, it has become clear we must make a major investment in our chapter house if we are to remain competitive, provide a quality living and learning environment, and ensure that we are providing a home that offers both community and privacy. Delta Chapter Today and Tomorrow Being a college student today is a balancing act. Our members are constantly on the move, requiring an atmosphere that supports their studies, campus involvement, and leadership roles. The sorority house has always been a safe haven that fosters academic excellence; however, study space and academic needs have changed. The benefit of having academically focused spaces in the house for the modern student would greatly impact the needs of our members for years to come. Providing our sisters with a chapter room where the entire membership can comfortably participate in meetings, programs, and ritual events is our goal. As the chapter house stands today, all our members are unable to be accommodated in the current space, hindering active participation. Reconfiguring the kitchen to accommodate our sisters' lifestyle by providing the women with a section of the kitchen 24/7 for personal snack/meal preparation, as well as access to grab and go meals, is another opportunity to bring the chapter house to modern standards. Finally, to fulfill our board's vision of creating and maintaining a safe environment for all members, many basic infrastructure elements, such as plumbing, electrical, and our 50-year-old fire suppression system are reaching the end of their useful life and we must plan for renovation or replacement.
