SIGMA CHI FRATERNITY • OKLAHOMA STATE UNIVERSITY • SPRING 2017 Inside • Thank You, Donors ~ p. 2-3 • Spotlight on Juergen Janzen '89 ~ p. 3 • Alumni Update ~ p. 4 The Sig Scroll SIGMA CHI KEEPS THE MOMENTUM GOING Brothers Continue to Excel in the Fraternity and on Campus G amma Delta has had a 2016-17 year full of tribulation and triumph. The men of Sigma Chi had a tremendous fall, participating with Zeta Tau Alpha in the world's largest Homecoming, performing shows with our fellow Greek community, and initiating 34 new brothers who share the same values of friendship, justice, and learning. As Gamma Delta reached new heights in the fall, we also experienced heartbreak and sorrow when our dear brother, Brandon Cavazos '18, passed away. As we move forward into 2017, we are excited to grow and reach new bounds, continue to excel in campus activities, recruit men who exemplify the standards we share, contribute philanthropic services to our community and the Huntsman Cancer Research, and raise men to become leaders in the world. GAMMA DELTA MAINTAINS A STRONG PRESENCE ON CAMPUS The men of Gamma Delta were very proud and fortunate to begin our fall semester working hard with the women of Zeta Tau Alpha for "A Cowboy's Dream" Homecoming, a tradition unlike any other at Oklahoma State. Our brothers recently performed in Varsity Revue with the lovely women of Chi Omega. We had a blast putting together a successful show and we are already looking forward to next year's event. Our men are beginning to prepare for the Chapter's annual Derby Days philanthropy, hoping to double our donations from last spring. We have brothers who are heavily involved in leadership roles on and off campus, with men who serve on the IFC executive committee, Order of Omega society, President's Leadership Council, Junior Greek Life, Homecoming executive committee, Varsity Revue steering committee, and many more organizations that highlight our success as an undergraduate brotherhood. BROTHERS CONTINUE TO GROW THROUGH THE INTERNATIONAL FRATERNITY Our brothers began the 2017 school year by attending Crossroads, a Sigma Chi-sponsored workshop that outlines the decisions regarding the social aspects of college, and how we as brothers must make choices that reflect our values. Our executive members represented Gamma Delta at Arkansas State for the annual Oklahoma/ Arkansas province conference, learning more about risk management, philanthropic service, and ways of becoming more involved as a post-graduate member. We look forward to the opportunity for brothers to attend Horizons this summer, as well as the Balfour Leadership Workshop in early August. SIGMA CHI FORTIFIES A STRONG GPA AMONG GREEK COMMUNITY Last fall, we worked hard to secure a 3.16 GPA, ranking us ninth out of 23 IFC fraternities. Our freshman pledge class attained a 3.21 GPA, ranking fourth among all new members of fraternities campuswide. Fourteen of our brothers achieved a 4.0 GPA, showcasing the dedication we have as a Chapter to succeed at an institution of higher learning. We are excited to thrive academically in the semester to come, continuing to push one another to reach new heights as students of fair ability. A White Rose Ceremony was performed on behalf of our lost brother and friend, Brandon Cavazos '18. Brothers represented the Gamma Delta Chapter at our annual province workshop, held this year in Jonesboro, Arkansas. (Continued on page 2)
