Kappa Alpha Chapter 3 S ince their days in the Chapter House, the Wolf sisters, Kathleen Wolf Werner '63, Marilyn Wolf Peterson '65, and Sandra Wolf Gleeson Roscow '66, and Gleeson sisters, Kelly Gleeson Smith '92, Jaime Gleeson Estorge '94, and Jenny Gleeson McCollum '96, have held a special place in their hearts for Kappa Delta. They developed inseparable bonds with sorority sisters, shared countless laughs, created memories that have lasted a lifetime, and now they are working to support a brighter future for Kappa Alpha through joining the Ensuring the Tradition of Excellence campaign. Why did you join Kappa Delta isn't an easy question, and certainly not a linear one, but for the Wolf family, the answer comes naturally. "My mother, Simone Fougerousse Wolf, UCLA '40, exposed me to Kappa Delta at a young age. I was so ecstatic to join KD and formed a very special bond with my sister, Marilyn. I developed instant friendships with my sorority sisters, and many of those bonds have lasted throughout my entire life. Joining KD is one of the best decisions I've ever made," Kathy says. Marilyn also recalls being inspired by her mother at a young age to join Kappa Delta. She says, "I remember when I was just 5 years old, my mother taught me the KD song that she learned during her years in the sorority. The lyrics to this song have been engrained in my memory ever since. I will never forget how thrilled I was when I received my bid from KD. Kappa Alpha transformed me into a responsible adult woman and inspired me to pursue the honorable and the highest in life's journey." Sandy cherished the closer bond she shared with her mother, Marilyn, and Kathy in Kappa Delta and takes great pride in being part of the family legacy. "Being part of this unique sisterhood with my other family members has enhanced my KD experience even more," she says. "If I didn't have Kappa Alpha, I wouldn't have had the opportunities, memories, and friendships I gained during such a critical time in my life. Kappa Alpha isn't only four years; it is for life." Often, the fondest memories aren't the big events, but the small moments that, when put together, make up the bonds that stay with you throughout your life. For the Gleeson family, this could not ring more true. The love of Kappa Delta was passed on to the next generation as Kelly, Jaime, and Jenny all joined Kappa Alpha. While in the Chapter, these women had their own wonderful experiences. "My undergraduate experience at Kappa Alpha was filled with happy memories, awesome football games, socials, and fun road trips!" Kelly says. "Kappa Delta means the world to me and I'm thankful for all the positive, lifelong experiences I gained during my years in the Chapter." Kappa Delta's commitment to pursuing the honorable and the highest and continuing the family legacy has been particularly important to Jaime. She says, "Knowing that there is a group of women who believe in me and love me for who I am is the biggest gift I received from Kappa Delta. In the past 20-plus years that we've been friends, we have been one another's bridesmaids, godmothers, confidants, and biggest supporters!" The unconditional love, support, and encour- agement Jenny has received from sisters over the years has inspired her to stay connected to Kappa Delta for life. "The women in Kappa Alpha inspired me to want to do great things, be a leader, and taught me life lessons that I still hold on to today. They continue to support me through the twists and turns of life, and I can count on them no matter how much time has passed between visits." Because the Wolf and Gleeson family know an attractive, well-maintained Chapter House is a tremendous source of pride for collegians and alumnae alike, choosing to support the Ensuring the Tradition of Excellence campaign was an easy decision for them. They saw Kappa Alpha's campaign as an opportunity to help carry on the legacy of Simone, who passed away in 2005, and contribute toward a family gift to the renovation project in her honor. Kelly says, "Monie is the matriarch of this incredible Kappa Delta legacy that not only I, but my mom, my two aunts, and my two sisters enjoy. While all of us were Kappa Alphas (yes, six of us over three generations!), she's the only one who wasn't at Florida State but she started it all. I know she's in heaven smiling down with a sweet AOT!" When Simone passed away, the Wolf and Gleeson sisters honored her loyalty to Kappa Delta with 64 white roses, one for each of her 64 years as a KD. As alumnae, the Wolf and Gleeson family eagerly anticipate the day the undergraduate Kappa Alphas have a renovated facility they can proudly call their home away from home. "Living in the KD house and being surrounded by the rich history of all of the sisters before us is an incredible privilege. An investment in Kappa Alpha's campaign is a small way of making sure we continue to strive toward that which is honorable, beautiful, and highest—on the inside as well as the outside," Jaime says. Kathy could not agree more with this and states, "With a renovated facility, Kappa Alpha will maintain its competitive standing and will continue to reach new levels of excellence. I wish I had a daughter so she could be part of such a wonderful organization of women!"
