2A Daily News– Wednesday, August 15, 2012 Community people&events Bunco night fundraiser Mediterranean Beef & Veggie Wraps its Bunco Night fundraiser at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16 at the Los Molinos Veterans Memorial Hall. Doors open at 6 p.m. Cost is $10 per person. The Central Tehama Kiwanis Club is a volunteer Central Tehama Kiwanis Club will hold organization dedicated to helping the youth of our com- munity. Amongst its many projects, is sponsors boys and girls invitational basketball tournaments for area grammar schools, donates money and service to orga- nizations that provide education and enrichment to young people, gives boxes of food for those in need during the Christmas holiday and throughout the whole year and awards scholarships to worthy high school graduates, most recently totaling $8,000. Every penny raised during fundraisers goes to sup- port projects; nothing is spent on the club itself. Kiwa- nis administrative costs are paid by member dues. One of the most popular fund-raisers is Bunco Night, a semi-annual event taking place in March and August of each year. There are various drawings and door prizes, to those who have bought tickets, plus the winners receive prizes for the most wins, the most loss- es and the most Buncos. Prizes are donated by local businesses. The prizes are displayed all evening, with a prominent card naming and thanking the donor. The club is only selling 100 tickets and they are going fast. Tickets can be purchased by calling Betty Morales at 384-1706. Tickets will also be available at the door, if available. School age children from the community were invited to receive free haircuts, school supplies and information about activities and resources for children and their families. Back to School Director Kim Berry said it was a huge success as parking was over loaded at the Community Center's parking lot and the neighborhood streets were lined with cars for the event. Several businesses, ogranizations and events donated the supplies and a very special thank you goes to all those who cut the kids' hair for free.
