Theta Data sigma phi epsilon 3 T he Ohio Theta Chapter continues to push itself in an upward trajectory. The now 150-man chapter has set new precedents in its mission of Building Balanced Men. Through alumni and parent engagement, philanthropy, brotherhood, academics, and member development, our chapter has continued to innovate. brotherhooD The ability to share healthy, constructive experiences creates a stronger bond between brothers. Last fall, our brothers brought in professional workout instructors, attended Reds and Cyclones games, and even enjoyed a surprise bowling outing. At our fall brotherhood retreat, organized by ryan reese '18, older brothers hosted a student organization fair for younger brothers to provide guidance as the chapter cultivates a new generation of campus leaders. leaDing the greeK community This is nothing new for Ohio Theta. However, several of our brothers have gone above and beyond. luke golden '17, ryan lieb '19, Kyle hardison '19, alec hoschauer '19, and Jon King '20 were all elected to the University of Cincinnati's Interfraternity Council and helped make SigEp a premier force in our Greek community. Additionally, our chapter hosted a Greek alumni panel on October 6. Its purpose was to bring the community together to discuss emotional intelligence. fall recruitment Our recruitment efforts blew all expectations out of the water. Led by michael irvine '18 and matthew lizik '18, Ohio Theta welcomed 44 new brothers with a combined GPA of 3.7. The brothers come from three home states and five colleges across campus. Fourteen of our new brothers were finalists for this year's Balanced Man Scholarship. acaDemics Ohio Theta takes pride in our academics. During the 2015-16 school year, our chapter saw a 3.5 percent increase in the GPA of our brothers from fall semester to spring semester. As a result, our chapter rose three spots in the Greek rankings. This ongoing improvement has been aided through a new academic mentorship program created by brothers trenton pfister '18 and ryan szlosek '18. philanthropy Our chapter's philanthropic momentum has grown tremendously during the past year. On September 6, our chapter hosted a new event called SigEp Shakes. We raised more than $1,200 for the Fuller Center for Housing. SigEp Stromboli, a returning event, was hosted on October 25. Finally, Ginger Greek, which is now our largest philanthropic event, was November 29 through December 1. There are a lot of reasons to be thankful this 2016- 17 academic year. We are thankful for those who have made our fall semester unforgettable, including Theta Phi Alpha, who teamed up with us for Homecoming; our parents, who joined us for a parents tailgate on November 5; Brian Schilling and Kevin Craspey, who came back builDing momentum across the cincinnati campus left: Brothers run the Nippert Stadium stairs in honor of the victims of the September 11 terrorist attack.
