PRESERVING OUR LEGACY While the Alpha Delta Pi experience is certainly more than the bricks and mortar of the Chapter house, our home undoubtedly plays a significant role in the development of our sisters and serves as a proud symbol of our shared values and goals. Since our current Chapter home's dedication in 1953, 1309 W. University Avenue has been an integral part of Alpha Omicron's legacy. Constructed by connecting two residential homes built in the 1920s and 1950s, our property is showing its age. We can no longer meet the needs of our members or continue the costly expense of maintaining our aging home. KEEPING OUR SISTERS SAFE e safety of our 200 Alpha and Delta members is of utmost importance to the Alpha Omicron House Corporation; we must offer a structurally sound and safe home for our collegians. e 1920s wing of our home is a sinking structure and the entire facility has antiquated wiring and plumbing as well as aging mechanical and insufficient heating and cooling. Furthermore, our home does not have a safe room should our members need to take shelter. Much like our personal homes, our Chapter house must be a safe haven that instills confidence in our members and their parents. SETTING ALPHA OMICRON APART College campus living has changed significantly, even within the last 10 to 15 years. e experience is wholly different than what most of our alumnae will remember. Residential facilities are the second most important factor in the college decision-making process behind the availability of a student's intended major. is is understandable considering that students spend 70% of their time within their living environment. We now must compete with the amenities offered in newly renovated on-campus residence halls and off-campus apartments. While Alpha Omicron continues to attract some of the top women, we know that we are losing quality members to other chapters that offer better facilities. Alpha Omicron Pi has built a new chapter facility and Alpha Xi Delta has recolonized and is looking to build a new house, while other sororities have plans for major renovations. Several fraternities have completed construction projects, including FarmHouse, Alpha Gamma Rho, and Fiji, while five others are building or have plans to rebuild. Adequate communal space in our home is key to fostering the sisterhood that defines Alpha Delta Pi. Our Urgent Need: 1309 W. University Avenue "e handwriting is on the wall for AO Chapter of ADPi and all Greek housing at OSU. Over the past three to five years, membership in Greek life has increased greatly. is is wonderful news if your chapter house can accommodate the new members. e majority of Greek houses have already built new ones or have plans to do so in the near future. We cannot let ADPi fall behind. We have more than 200 outstanding members and a Chapter house that can sleep 55 to 60. Currently, no room is large enough to eat together, have Chapter meetings together, nor hold initiation in our own house. How can we strengthen the close sisterhood we are known for, unless we can be together? It is our responsibility to provide our members with the tools they need to continue being competitive and recruiting outstanding young women like themselves. Remember, 'We Live For Each Other.' e time is right. e time is now to support and contribute to the Alpha Omicron Building Campaign." – Connie Staff Stiegler '64, Campaign Co-Chairman Our current dining room that can only accommodate half of our members. Chapter meetings are currently held in a classroom on campus due to inadequate space in the house.
