4 The Lion's Share G rateful for all that ADPi gave her, including her husband of 58 years, Sara Suggs Bohannon '56 recognizes the need to give back to the Chapter that grew and shaped her during her college years. Sara joined Alpha Omicron 60 years ago for the same reasons women continue to join today. "The Chapter house seemed more like a home and I was comfortable with the people in the house," Sara said. She enjoyed the service opportunities the sorority gave and the chance to live with like-minded people that shared the same values as her. Visiting the house years later Sara said, "The house gives me the same feelings it gave me years ago. The women have the same enthusiasm and excitement for life." Sara came to OSU from a supportive community where she had the chance to gain leadership skills and hold officer positions in several organizations throughout high school. "Going to OSU, I didn't know anybody. I needed a support group and ADPi gave that to me," Sara shared. She continued to strengthen her leadership skills by serving the Chapter as Treasurer, Panhellenic Representative, and was on the AO Standards Committee. Sara liked living in the Chapter house and has many memories from that time, including meals with the housemother, candle lightings, serenades, interacting with house boys, and sneaking into the kitchen late at night for a midnight treat. ADPi not only gave Sara many memories, but it also is to thank for her first date with her husband, Joe. Another sister from ADPi had gone on a date and met Joe, and thought about Sara, who was short in stature. Joe was also short, so she felt that Sara and Joe would be a good fit. The two were set up to go on a blind date and the rest is history! Sara and Joe recently were on a couple's episode of the Wheel of Fortune when host Pat Sajack asked the two if it was love at first sight—Joe shook his head yes, while Sara shook her head no! Nevertheless, Sara has ADPi to thank for her husband, and so much more. Sara shares the reason why she decided to give to Pride in Our Past, Building Our Legacy capital campaign: "ADPi gave me a great start to adulthood. We need to support the collegiate Chapter as they grow and need the technology and infrastructure to continue with that growth. I want the house to be as comfortable for the future generations of AOs as it was for me." She wants alumnae to think on what the sorority has to offer, and to think about the rich history of AO women who have impacted the community. "Every alumna should support the Chapter in some way since they have each benefitted from the support of alumnae before them," Sara stated. Sara and Joe, live in Broken Arrow, Okla. They have two children, Stacy and Brian, who both graduated from OSU, and five grandchildren. Sara loves playing bridge with her ADPi sisters and spending time with her family.
