J oining her local alumnae chapter over 50 years ago, Marthanelle Chastain Jones, University of Oklahoma '61 notes that wherever she has been in life, ADPis have always been her favorite group; always friendly and caring. "The connection we all have as sisters has not faded. We can expect to stick together among the rest of the world," Marthanelle said. When her Chapter at the University of Oklahoma closed in 1970, the only ADPi Chapter around for her to be involved with as an alumna was Alpha Omicron. Marthanelle felt she needed to continue her ADPi experience with Alpha Omicron and came to know several of these sisters over the years to come. For this reason, Marthanelle also felt it necessary to give back financially to Alpha Omicron. She sees and recognizes the importance her contribution will have for the future of ADPi sisters at Oklahoma State. Marthanelle joined the Gamma Zeta Chapter at OU in 1961, and although she did not graduate then, she holds valuable experiences she has carried with her ever since. She remembers living in the small house on campus with several sisters in each bedroom. "We were from all over—big towns, small towns, some of us well off, some not. We all had different ways of thinking," Marthanelle said. Her sorority experience provided countless opportunities to meet all kinds of people. "Being in a sorority is a good way to meet a lot of people. It's a small group on a big campus, and you always have someone to help you out or give advice and guidance in life or in school," Marthanelle stated. "They cause you to think and look at the broader opinion of others." Whether it's playing bridge, having dinner together at local restaurants, or attending monthly meetings, Marthanelle has remained involved in alumnae activities. She encourages others to try and find their local alumnae chapter wherever they are at and see if there are people in the group you can come to appreciate, learn from their perspective, and grow from. Marthanelle and her husband, Bob, live in Tulsa, Okla., and have three children, Lydia, Valerie, and Michael. They also have five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Marthanelle enjoys golfing, bowling, spending time on embroidery, quilting, crocheting, and being in groups and working on projects.
