IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY PAGE 3 Chapter Eternal______________ Dan Wedemeyer '65 entered Chapter Eternal on March 16. He spent his career at the School of Communications at the University Hawaii and retired in 2011 after a career spanning more than 30 years. Dan traveled to dozens of countries and was the co-author or co-editor of several books and dozens of articles and policy reports. For all his accomplishments in research, Dan was equally known for his teaching and mentoring. He received the Presidential Citation for Excellence in Teaching from the University of Hawaii. His influence as a teacher led to former students and colleagues establishing the Dan J. Wedemeyer Excellence in Teaching Award at UH that encourages graduate students to excel at teaching. Dan is survived by his wife, Setsuko, and numerous friends and family. Alumni News________________ Alfred H. Hausrath '42 had a great 30-year career as an aerospace engineer and now has put in 28 years as a happy retiree. He and his wife, Mary, celebrated 67 years of marriage earlier this year. Blinks '46 reports that life is good at 88 years old. "I don't drive, although I could, but my son, Scott, controls my keys. My knees bother me from years of tramping through the woods as a forester for Weyerhauser for 31 years. I miss the brothers a lot." Stanley lives in Chehalis, Wash. ALUMNI UPDATE Newton F. Fisher '49 and his wife, Kathryn, live in Franklin, N.C., and have been married for 64 years. He is still in the pulpit and in the "calling ministry" for aged parishioners. John W. Olds '53 and his wife, Rosemary, returned to Iowa in 1972 and have lived in Des Moines ever since. Rosemary is a retired college professor and John is a semi-retired infectious disease physician working part time as a medical advisor to the Iowa Board of Medicine. Richard T. Michell '57 is president of Michell Marketing Inc., which has allowed him to visit 28 countries around the world and experience many great things. "It's our bonding time while our kids are in college." Robert and Linda live in Wheaton, Ill. Scott D. Krambeck '80 retired from the Navy as a captain after 30 years of service in December 2012. He started his second career in February 2013 with General Atomics, Aeronautical Systems Inc. He and his wife, Laura, have twin daughters, Sophia and Lydia, who started transitional kindergarten in August. They live in San Diego, Calif.
