TAU TALK ALPHA TAU OMEGA AT IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY FALL 2016 House Corporation Urges Alumni to Heed the Call Volunteer Opportunities Are Available – Get Involved Today! T he new school year started off on a very high note. Gamma Upsilon has experienced a full house, tons of awards and recognitions at the National Congress, a chapter executive board packed with intelligence and integrity, a powerful addition to the board in Mrs. Danielle Loven, and the completion of Phase 2 of the planned updating to the chapter house facility. Smiles have been plentiful as good judgement has been the order of the day. For the first time in many years, House Director Mike Kelly shares nothing but positive reports. The corporation board continues its focus on modernizing the living and study spaces, as well as supporting the undergraduate chapter with guidance and rewarding academic performance with scholarships. We awarded 22 scholarships last semester and many new applications are coming in again this year; we feel very strongly that your financial support is making the difference. Our scholarship budget is straining to keep up with the advances in cost of an ISU education. A nice recovery in the stock market is helping, as are annual gifts from a number of highly supportive brothers. A contribution to the scholarship fund never hurts! As with any starving college student, the board of your fraternity can use a few more hands to help do the heavy lifting. Opportunities to participate continue to grow with more undergraduates, increased university guidelines and restrictions, and an environment that expects more out of these young men every semester. There are many local brothers who live close enough to include the chapter in their plan to "pay it back." Please heed the call to support these great young men in their personal development. Fraternally, William J. Burke Jr. '74 House Corporation Treasurer (515) 239-7175 / bill@brkco.com Gamma Upsilon's kitchen was also renovated this summer. The formal room was completely redesigned this summer. True Merit Bowl Returns to ISU after Seven-Year Hiatus A fter a very busy and productive spring semester, our chapter has a lot to show for it. Obtaining a 3.06 chapter GPA sealed the deal when it came time for the 82nd Alpha Tau Omega Biennial Congress in Charlotte, North Carolina, in August. Gamma Upsilon brought home its 17th True Merit Bowl from ATW's Biennial Congress this summer. Gamma Upsilon's Trophy Case Expands (Continued on page 2)
