Big Red Island NEWS 4 SELF GOVERNANCE AND STRONG LEADERSHIP CONTRIBUTE TO PRESTIGIOUS AWARDS Due to the efforts of our advisory team, headed by Jody Vivion '09, and our National Leadership consultant, Noah Reetz, Minnesota '14, we have been able to make great advances this year in chapter leadership and governance and look forward to their continued contributions. In August, we had an all-era reunion at the General Fraternity's 177th National Convention in Oklahoma City. Over 100 brothers attended the reunion and 45 Gamma Lambdas attended the grand finale banquet on Saturday night. Near the end of the banquet, the major awards were distributed to the winners. From the 177th General Fraternity Convention, our chapter won the following: 1. Charles Henry Hardin Leadership Development Award 2. Outstanding Recruitment Program Award 3. Virginia Tech Award for Excellence in Academics 4. Shelby Molter Song Competition – second place 5. Sisson Award – one of the top awards given for a combination of academics, advisors, membership education, leadership development, service, financial health, and chapter standing and operations 6. Knox Award – the crème de la crème top award with similar criteria as the Sisson, but the bar is higher It was gratifying to our brothers to see that hard work and diligence in all our endeavors was acknowledged by our General Fraternity. If you have never attended a convention, it is a night where you are proud that you are a Beta. THANK YOU, ALUMNI, FOR YOUR SUPPORT As always, we want to thank our alumni who established the foundation for the fraternity that so many of us call home today. If you are ever in the area, I encourage you to come by the house and see the difference Gamma Lambda is making on campus and in the lives of our members. Yours in _kai_, Link Strickland '17 Chapter President (918) 724-1544 link.strickland@okstate.edu SUPERLATIVE PERFORMANCE (Continued from page 2) Undergraduates celebrate their first place win in the annual Varsity Revue show.
