Big Red Island NEWS Think Back. Think Big. Think Beta. 3 Thank You, generous BroThers $2.1 Raised in Early Commitments W e are deeply grateful to the 95 brothers, the undergraduate chapter, and friends of the fraternity who have contributed $2,162,546 to the Think Back. Think Big. Think Beta. campaign. These alumni recognize the importance of ensuring the future of Gamma Lambda and have demonstrated a sense of gratitude for their personal experience. Commitments are still needed from the rest of our alumni to achieve our goal of $4 million. All donors contributing a minimum of $2,500 or more to the campaign, over a five-year period, will be recognized on a plaque prominently displayed in the chapter house. Campaign Status At-a-Glance "I chose to support the ink Back. ink Big. ink Beta. campaign because of all the great friendships and memories that I made while living at 1207. Also, my wife and I just gave birth to our second child, and were blessed with a beautiful baby boy. I hope that one day James will be a Beta, and if it's at Oklahoma State, I want to ensure that the future is bright for the chapter by assisting inthis campaign to improve the house." As of November 1, 2016 $4 Million Campaign Goal $2,162,546 Total Commitments 95 Contributors "I'm supporting the Gamma Lambda capital campaign because I want the Beta legacy at OSU to continue. It is amazing to me that the chapter continues to excel on campus in spite of the fact our old house is literally falling apart. We absolutely have to build a new Beta house or we will soon see a decline in the quality of men we can attract to the chapter." "I support the campaign because of the impact Beta eta Pi had on my life. I realize that all the construction going on with fraternities on the OSU campus could mean the loss of a Beta chapter here if we don't build in the immediate future. It would be terrible if young men in the future would not have the opportunity that past and present Gamma Lambda members have had the honor to be a part of." It was the fall of 1967 when I first entered the Beta house. I had spent the summer being rushed by several fraternities but it all seemed to come back to Beta eta Pi. I wondered what it was that kept me thinking about Beta. Was it the fact that they had won all competitions for several years, the swagger, the challenging pledge program, or a phone call from my cousin who told me to take the bid from Beta if I received it—even though her fiancé was president of another fraternity? On bid day, I frantically flipped through the envelope and there it was—#8 a bid from Beta eta Pi! Looking back on my Beta experience, it was a combination all of these that kept me thinking about Beta but it was the men that lived there and the men in my pledge class that really made the difference. I've had a lot of opportunities to think about my time in the chapter while working on the ink Back. ink Big. ink Beta campaign. One thing that has continued to resonate with me is the idea of men that came before me, who unselfishly started it all so that I could one day say, "I thank God I'm a Beta!" I'm driven by lines from "e Bridge Builder": "A youth whose feet must pass this way. is chasm that has been naught to me. To that fair-haired youth may a pitfall be. He, too, must cross in the twilight dim. Good friend, I am building the bridge for him" I foresee a celebratory black tie event celebrating a successful capital campaign that will allow us, alumni and friends of Gamma Lambda, to raise funds to build a desperately needed Beta house. I am asking all Gamma Lambda alumni to make a sacrifice for the Betas that will follow in our footsteps. You'll be glad you did!
