26 UCW NOVEMBER 2-8, 2016 WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM CUMBERLAND Resources Available for Hurricane Victims co.cumberland.nc.us Find us on social media Cumberland County residents who suffered losses and damage as a result of Hurricane Matthew can get information about state and federal assistance at the Disaster Recovery Center (DRC) open daily at the Cumberland County Department of Social Services, 1225 Ramsey St., Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 12 to 5 p.m. Representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), North Carolina Emergency Management and the U.S. Small Business Administration are staffing the center. Survivors can get help applying for federal assistance, learn about the types of assistance available, gather information on the appeals process, and check for updates on their applications. Disaster survivors may register online at DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362. A "Hurricane Matthew Recovery Community Resource Directory" is available on the county's homepage at co.cumberland.nc.us. Friends of the Library Requesting Donations The Friends of the Library are urgently requesting donations of materials from the Cumberland County community. When the basement of Headquarters Library was flooded during Hurricane Matthew, a large portion of the Friends' book sale inventory was destroyed. The Friends of the Library receive most of their funding through quarterly book sales. Proceeds provide the Friends with the ability to supplement library programs and services that would not otherwise be possible. All branches are accepting small donations (one paper grocery bag full of items.) If you have a larger donation, please call 483- 7727 ext. 1304. The Friends of the Library accept books, CDs and DVDs in good or like new condition. Magazines should be no more than 5 years old. Individuals who want to donate can go to cumberland.lib.nc.us and select "Give Now." The North Carolina Department of Public Safety Emergency Management section, along with the local chartered Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) of Cumberland County, are offering free basic training sessions to residents in November and December. Classes will be at Westarea Fire Department, 6989 Ramsey St., Fayetteville, on Nov. 18 from 6 to 9 p.m. and Nov. 19 and 20 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Classes will be held at Fayetteville Technical Community College, 2201 Hull Rd., Fayetteville, on Dec. 2 from 6 to 9 p.m. and Dec. 3 and 4 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Register online at https://terms.ncem.org/TRS/logon.do or call Melvin Lewis at 910-321-6676 for more information. Residents Can Take Emergency Response Classes Rabies Clinic at Health Department Nov. 12 The Department of Public Health will hold a fall rabies vaccination clinic for dogs and cats on Nov. 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot of the Public Health Center located at 1235 Ramsey Street. The cost is $10 per animal. Please keep your dog on a leash. Keep your cats in separate carriers or boxes or leave them in your car. Only cash is accepted for payment.
