Phi Kappa Psi Members participated in and won the Football FenXi hosted by Alpha Xi Delta sorority. s a Phi Kappa Psi legacy, Michael K. Hauck '89 was exposed to the values and traditions of the Fraternity by his father, Kenneth H. Hauck, Rhode Island Alpha '56, who is a Phi Psi alumnus. "I knew I wanted to join Phi Kappa Psi after learning my father was a Phi Psi at Brown University," Mike says. "Based on the rewarding experiences and bonds my father gained as a member, this inspired me to follow in his footsteps and be part of something bigger than myself. Ohio Delta provided me with some of my most cherished friendships and memories, and gave me the confidence to pursue opportunities I didn't think were possible otherwise. My Phi Psi experience was truly one in a million, and I wouldn't trade it for anything." Being surrounded by Brothers like James Desmond '86, who was Mike's grand big in Ohio Delta, made a profound impact on Mike's fraternal experience and they continue to stay in touch to this day. "Our connection is just as strong today as it was during our undergraduate years in Ohio Delta," he says. Mike's dedication to Phi Kappa Psi carried on after graduation, as he became involved with the National Fraternity and volunteered to be the Chapter advisor for the Ohio Mu Chapter at the University of Dayton in 2004. "Throughout my local and national involvement with the Fraternity, I've realized that you build relationships, both good and bad, that last throughout your life and help you become who you are today. Phi Psi is a common thread the Brothers share, and no matter what obstacles or hardships you endure, you will always have a nationwide network of Brothers there to provide friendship and support." Mike has served as the fire chief of the Village of Evendale Fire Department outside of Cincinnati for the last four years, and as a life-safety inspector, paramedic, fire fighter, public educator, and civil services employee in the public sector for the past 27 years. "I enjoy delivering top- notch public service to the community, making a positive difference in people's lives, and going above and beyond what is expected of me," he says. Aside from his professional career, Mike pays it forward by giving back to the Heritage Hill Foundation, which he started with seven other friends of Andrew Smith, a great friend who was diagnosed with cancer shortly after he and Mike became friends. "Andrew invited 40 friends to sit under an oak tree one day on his family's farm and bring some sort of art they made to auction off, with all proceeds going to grassroots cancer organizations," Mike says. "We were all deeply saddened when Andrew eventually passed away, so I, along with those seven friends, made it a goal to continue the annual auction in Andrew's honor. We recently celebrated our 20th auction, having raised more than $500,000 for cancer research, and have helped with organizations such as Ronald McDonald House, Cancer Family Care, Josh Cares, Dragonfly, and others. This year, we will help more than 300 patients and families grieve from their loss of loved ones. I want our legacy to be that the foundation has the capability to provide the funding for patients through the year 2100." When he is not hard at work, you'll likely find Mike cooking pizza grilled cheese with his daughter, Kaily (19), skiing, playing tennis, hockey, or golf, exercising, boxing at 9Round Fitness, doing yard work, or bicycling, in which he has participated in a 100-mile bike ride for cancer awareness. He and his wife of 23 years, Jennifer, who was Mike's high school sweetheart and works for the American Heart Association, have another daughter, Samantha (21), and live happily in the Cincinnati area. Both daughters are attending Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Our Chapter has seen vast improvements in grade point average as scholarships have become more competitive. Through a number of philanthropic events, Brothers have gained valuable skills and have obtained memorable experiences by helping others. Competition among potential members continues to be strong; only the best men on campus are given the honor to pledge the Fraternity. Ohio Delta also endures as one of the prominent societies on campus. The outlook for the semester and beyond is bright. Chapter Recognized for Excellence Our Chapter was voted Best Fraternity (IFC) by 1870 Magazine for the year, which was featured in the magazine's "Best" article. We are very proud of all that we have accomplished as a Chapter and will strive to continue this reign of success. Phi Psi Ranks among Top Tier in Academics Last semester's Chapter grade point average saw an increase of .02 and jumped to 3.23, right on par with the Greek life cumulative average Michael K. Hauck '89 Remains a Dedicated Alumnus and Leader for Phi Kappa Psi A OHIO DELTA LEADS THE WAY Commitment to Excellence Sets Chapter on Positive Path A (Continued on page 4) of 3.24. That GPA is also higher than the university cumulative GPA of 3.18. As such, the Chapter's GPA translates to one of the highest on campus. I could not be more proud of the effort I have seen thus far. The improvements can be attributed to the highly driven new members and
