Phi Kappa Psi Ohio Delta Company 47 East 16th Avenue Columbus, OH 43201 Address Service Requested OHIO DELTA The Buckeye Phi Psi longtime docents, conducting tours of the house and giving talks on Thurber. Timmons oversaw the restoration of 77 Jefferson and its subsequent maintenance, then chaired the building committee for the Thurber Center, a new reproduction building next door that serves for classes and meetings. Spain and Timmons lobbied the state legislature to secure a grant for that facility. Thurber House has become a nationally significant literary center, attracting noted authors to its lecture series and summer picnic readings. It hosts a writer-in-residence program, where contemporary authors live in the historic house while creating their literature. Guest writers have also served as journalism coaches at the Columbus Dispatch, where Thurber was a reporter. Educational programs include adult and youth writing workshops and school presentations. A gala event is held annually in December to celebrate Thurber's birthday and to award a coveted prize for humorous writing. The house and its programs stand as a tribute to the creative talent of Brother James Thurber. A 1918 photo composite of his Phi Psi class is displayed in his restored bedroom in the house. Through the years, Ohio Delta actives have performed service projects at Thurber House and continue to do so to perpetuate the proud fraternal connection. History of Thurber House (Continued from page 1) a general consensus of Chapter scholarship. I am extraordinarily pleased to say that the Chapter stands in the top quarter for all of Ohio State for members on the Deans' List. Ohio Delta has concluded that an exemplified academic mark supersedes all other aspects of University life. Brothers Raise More Than $10,000 in Philanthropic Efforts The Chapter raised more than $10,000 last spring through various events. The money was donated to the Boys and Girls Club of Columbus and to the Linville family. The daughter of the Linville family, a cousin of a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity, was diagnosed with cancer, so the pledges of our Chapter and the Sigma Chi pledges teamed up to participate in a football game to support her medical bills. This year, the Chapter will participate in the annual Phi Psi Open, a tennis tournament that regularly draws hundreds of attendees and raises thousands of dollars. Recruitment Success Boosts Chapter Morale The past two semesters have seen extraordinary turnouts for recruitment events. A combined 160 potential members came to recruitment, with 27 new members in the spring and 10 pledges this fall. "The large turnout has made the job difficult; however, it is truly satisfying knowing we have the ability to accept only the best men on campus each semester," Recruitment Chairman Jacob Pfhal '14 says. Ohio Delta Hosts Fall Events For Homecoming week, we invited alumni to come to a tailgate prior to the football game against Rutgers University. It is sure to be a great time of catching up and meeting Ohio Delta alumni. The weekend of November 12, we hosted the fathers of the Chapter for a weekend of dinners, watching the Buckeyes, and attending a Columbus Blue Jackets hockey game. Thank You, Loyal Alumni, for Your Support This semester is sure to be filled with more success as we embark on a semester full of philanthropy, new member education, and brotherhood events. As always, our success could not be possible without the generous support of our alumni and the alumni on the Housing Corporation. The Brothers are always excited to meet alumni and extend an open invitation to come by our great home whenever they happen to be in Columbus.
