Page 2 H H H Sigma star F or the last 19 years, Leslie Bird Morse '87 has dedicated her life to raising her children, Annie '15 and Adam. As a stay-at- home mom, watching her kids grow into re- sponsible young adults is an accomplishment that makes her proud. Another proud moment in Leslie's life occurred last fall when Annie became a member of Sigma Kappa at KU, a feeling Leslie herself remembers quite fondly. The warm, friendly greeting she received from the women of Xi Chapter made Leslie's deci- sion to become a member an easy one. They were a diverse group who were down to earth and easy to get along with. It also didn't hurt that the house was beautiful with an amazing location on campus. "It's important to enjoy every moment of your time at college," Leslie said. "There's never another time like this in your life. Living with so many young women taught me how to interact with different personalities and situations. It also gave me the opportunity to contribute to a group and work with others. I made lifelong friends who have enriched my life. A group of us get together every month or so. The bond we have is amazing and we still laugh and have so much fun together." Leslie graduated with a degree in journalism. Before choosing to stay home with her chil- dren, she worked in public relations for an advertising agency and non-profit. "Once you graduate and begin focusing on a career, have a strong work ethic, but make sure you make time for fun. You're only young once. Mak- ing the choice to raise my kids was one of the best decisions I've made. I am, however, re- entering the working world soon!" Now that Annie is a member of Xi Chapter, Leslie has reconnected with the chapter. She attended initiation and served in the alumna role during the ceremony. "I'm very impressed with the chapter and the young women I've met. I hope they continue to strive for excellence in academics and community service, and keep upholding the standards of Sigma Kappa." Leslie and her husband, Jim, live in Overland Park, Kansas. She enjoys going on walks, biking, visiting the lake, and spending her free time with the family. Annie and Adam are both sophomores (college and high school, respectively). And she can't forget about her furry kid, Maisy, a West High- land terrier.
