"We continue to host these outreach events every other month in a new location within Fayetteville, to provide residents an opportunity to talk directly with City leadership," said Kevin V. Arata, City of Fayetteville Corporate Communications Director. "This is a really great opportunity for you to engage one-on-one with those who are responsible for all of the services provided by the City, and get answers directly from them on any questions you might have about what we do to keep Fayetteville up to the high standards our residents deserve." For those residents who cannot attend the meeting in person, they can participate via the online town hall format by logging into the City's Facebook page. We encourage residents to submit their questions online and they will be answered online and in the public forum. The City of Fayetteville wants citizens to be a part of the 2016 Citizens' Academy this fall. Classes start Thursday, Oct. 6 at 6 p.m. and are held each Thursday through Nov. 17. The Citizens' Academy is free of charge. The Citizens' Academy is fun and interactive. The class meets once a week and gives citizens the opportunity to learn more about local government and take ownership of their community. The Citizens' Academy also helps citizens understand how the City provides services to residents. Citizens learn what City departments do and how they do it. Citizens will get an up-close look at all the major departments across the City, to include the Police Department, Fire Department Training Facility, Fayetteville Regional Airport and learn about the City's budget process. The class will be opened by the Mayor and Interim City Manager and the graduation ceremony will be hosted by a Council member. The City hopes that informed citizens are able to take information to community groups and share with neighbors. It may even encourage some to be involved in building a better community by becoming members of boards and commissions. "This is a great way to learn more about what City government does to serve its citizens," Corporate Communications Director Kevin V. Arata said. "Last year's class of 43 students learned a lot about our City and had very positive comments about their experiences. We have increased this year's class to accommodate even more citizens and look forward to showing off our employees and departments to the community."
