2 The WISE OLD OWL The White Rose Ceremony was organized by Gary Grear '69. There were more than 30 brothers in attendance as well as family, friends, and alumni from other fraternities. The emotional ceremony was presented by Robert Robinson '76, past Grand Praetor and Constantine Sig. One by one, roses were laid for Bill. Angie said a few words about her father, and brothers followed with stories of good times and Bill's congenial character. He was a leader, the life of the party, and a person you could always count on. The ceremony was a way for brothers to share the bond of Sigma Chi, not just amongst themselves, but with everyone in attendance. Bill fought a good fight against glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer, for three years—two years longer than expected. When he was first diagnosed, he did not want to know a timeframe because all that mattered to him was giving it all he had. When he learned that he had surpassed all expectations, Bill did something else to show his true character; he donated his body so that those after him could fight the way he did.
