Much has occurred since our last newsletter. We held officer elections in April, and Kirk Caraway '94 was elected President, Don Wilson '68 Vice President, Chuck Pierce '06 Treasurer, and Neil Carrigan '07 Secretary. Don served as President for the last eight years and provided leadership and direction that resulted in the success of the House Corporation. We received the Outstanding House Corporation award from the Sigma Chi Board of Grand Trustees numerous times during Don's presidency, including in 2016. We all owe a debt of gratitude to Don for his service as President, and appreciate his willingness to continue to work with the House Corporation. Exterior Chapter House Renovations Underway We completed significant renovations to the interior of the Chapter House last fall, and are now renovating the exterior. The House Corporation acquired a lot adjacent to the Chapter House so we can build a circular drive and additional parking. The property has been cleared and graded, and the contractor is currently paving the driveway. This project will greatly add to the aesthetic and functional value of our property. Legacy of Excellence Campaign Raised $190,000 Our Legacy of Excellence campaign ended on June 30. Fifty-eight alumni contributed to the campaign and $190,000 in cash and in-kind donations was raised. However, we are still $10,000 short of our goal. Please consider making a donation today so that we can raise the funds needed to financially support our Chapter House and property. Checks can be made payable to the Memphis Sigma Chi Housing Corporation and mailed to Kirk Caraway, 80 Monroe Avenue, Suite 650, Memphis, Tennessee 38103. Alumni, Please Join Us for Homecoming Lastly, we would like for you and your significant other to join us for an event at the Chapter House on Friday, October 28, starting at 6 p.m. Food and drinks will be provided. The University of Memphis Homecoming game is the next day, when the Tigers play the Tulsa Golden Hurricane. We want to show off all the renovations that have taken place over the last year, so please make plans to attend. It is also how he closed it. On June 25, Bill passed away after fighting cancer for three years. On July 10, a White Rose Ceremony was held in his honor at the Sigma Chi Chapter House. "It was something he wanted. Epsilon Kappa meant a lot to him," Gordan Brigman '70, one of Bill's closest friends, said. "It only seemed right to do it, as he was one of the guys who helped lead Sigma Chi from the sixties to the present era." Bill was very proud to be a Sig. "He always wore his ring and was very involved," Angie Pierce, Bill's daughter, said. When events were held at the house, Bill would always attend them. He wanted to meet the actives and donate his time when he could. Not only was Bill proud to be a Sig, but he lived his life as one. He donated time to his church and was known for helping others, while asking for nothing in return. He would pick up groceries for those who could not afford them and donated his money anonymously. His career was also a reflection of Sigma Chi. He worked for the government and traveled all over the world. His profession mattered to him and he wanted to be the best he could in all he did.
