KanSaS BEta PAGE 3 "Take risks and treat people right; it will guide you in the best direction possible." This is the mindset that Brett Bartholomew '08 uses every day and has served as the foundation for many of his achievements in life. In fact, this led him to pursue a career as a strength and conditioning coach and he has had the unique opportunity to train some of the world's best athletes, including Matthew Stafford, Julius Peppers, Christian Ponder, Richie Incognito, and Jonathan Stewart. "I owe a lot of my success to the 'sound mind, sound body' mentality that Kansas Beta embraced. I admired the Chapter's commitment to upholding the fraternal values and began utilizing these values in my everyday life. I very likely wouldn't have the rewarding career I wake up to everyday if it weren't for Kansas Beta." Unlike many professions, Brett is exposed to something new every day as a strength and conditioning coach. "I have had the pleasure of coaching NFL, UFC, and Special Forces athletes, which involves speed, agility, movement-based training, strength and conditioning in the weight room, and helping these athletes sharpen their speaking skills," he says. In addition, Brett also gives human performance, culture, and leadership lectures internationally. "My favorite part about my profession is the relationships I develop with these tremendous athletes. Mentoring people from the inside out and helping them learn what they are capable of achieving is one of the best feelings. I hope I've impacted their lives as much as they've impacted mine." As a zealous member in Kansas Beta, Brett wasted no time taking advantage of opportunities that came his way. As social chairman, risk management chairman, and sound mind, sound body chairman, Brett established himself as a prominent leader in Kansas Beta. "Through my involvement in the Chapter, I wanted to help my brothers grow in both a physical and psychological sense and unify our Chapter as one team, regardless of what their background or interests were," he says. "Being exposed to various challenging situations gave me a taste of what it's like in the professional world, and inspired me to use the wealth of knowledge I gained in Kansas Beta with the athletes I train every day." Despite his busy schedule, Brett stays connected with Kansas Beta brothers, including Adam Griffin '07, Larry Duncan '07, and Drew McCart '11, and attends Chapter events when possible. "My continued support of Kansas Beta has allowed me to be a mentor to the undergraduates and reinforce important life lessons that will help them excel not only in the Fraternity but all aspects of life. It is my hope that alumni will use their resources, knowledge, and talents as well to make a meaningful impact on future generations and ensure our Chapter's continued excellence." Brett is working on his book, Conscious Coaching, which discusses the science and art of bettering one's life in the areas of training and leadership management, and says, "I'm blessed to have the opportunity to share my story and inspire others to make life-changing decisions." Brett is also the founder of Bartholomew Strength, which is a performance consulting business for athletes, coaches, and corporations worldwide. When he is not hard at work, Brett enjoys reading, hiking, training, boxing, and spending time with his family; friends; wife, Liz; and dogs. Banister '73 entered Chapter Eternal on January 12, 2015, as a resident of Edmond, Okla. He enjoyed a fulfilling career as manager of the natural gas engine oil product line for CITGO Lubricants. Donald took pleasure in many outdoor activities with his son, Caleb, which included mountain biking, deer hunting, pheasant hunting, turkey hunting, trout fishing, and skipping rocks. He also enjoyed coaching basketball for his daughter, Ashley. He is survived by his wife, Carol; two children, Ashley and Caleb; two granddaughters, Anna and Beatrice; four siblings; and several nieces and nephews. Mom's Club Plans for the Fall L ast spring, the men of Sigma Phi Epsilon welcomed their moms to Manhattan for Mom's Weekend on April 9. Activities included a Chipotle lunch, silent auction, and bowling. After bowling, most of us met for dinner to top off a fabulous day. Money raised from our auction will be used to fund much-needed housekeeping supplies for the facility so the men can keep it clean. Other wish list items are being considered to improve the house. The Parent's Club also funded a monthly pizza dinner and birthday cake for the men. This has been well received by the undergraduates and we will continue this new tradition into the next school year. This fall will be exciting as the Chapter welcomes a new housemother, Diann Veith. The housemother apartment was renovated over the summer so Diane could have a nice, fresh apartment to move in to. I'm sure the men of SigEp and parents will be happy to have a housemother this semester. The Parent's Weekend luncheon and barbecue will be held at the house on September 24. Dad's Weekend is scheduled for October 15, which will include golf at Colbert Hills and a watch party for the KSU vs. OU game. We look forward to another exciting year at Sigma Phi Epsilon.
